Job Description
esure are currently recruiting for a Junior Site Reliability Engineer to join our SRE team which supports a variety of applications covering front-end, client-facing websites and business-facing applications.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is currently in a support role or application support role with a passion to move into SRE.
DETAILED ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensuring required reactive and proactive activities are undertaken to ensure SRE team is contributing to the successful meeting of SLA’s in relation to service availability.
- To provide early input to the business planning process to help decision making and to quickly evaluate the impact of a new business initiatives on the existing underlying application infrastructure platforms and delivery schedule.
- Work with Product Delivery Managers to define and refine working practices between SRE Team and Product teams to increase collaboration and shift to DevOps focused culture.
- Proactively supporting the underlying application infrastructure technology estate reducing service risk, inefficiencies, problems and bugs.
- Responsible for supporting escalated incidents during office hours and out-of-hours support as required to ensure high availability of mission critical systems.
- To build robust relationships with Products, Enterprise Architecture and other Cloud Services areas.
- Proactively supporting the underlying application infrastructure technology estate reducing service risk, inefficiencies, problems and bugs.
- To look for potential improvements to the SRE Team services provided and approach to propose to the SRE Manager.
- Proactively see opportunities to reduce support effort and costs through effective tooling and automation.
- Work allocation & prioritisation, formal/informal reviews, training and career development.
- Mentoring and technical leadership.
- Deputise for SRE Manager from time to time as required.
- Champion DevOps working culture and need for effective collaboration.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting complex cloud and data centre applications
- Proven experience and knowledge of Unix systems
- A deep understanding of monitoring, and experience defining performance indicators and service level objectives
- Knowledge of scripting or coding in bash and python
- Determination to drive changes in support of our goals to improve quality and speed of delivery in a DevOps environment
- Great communication skills
