Job Description
The Associate Director is responsible for achieving excellence in design while at all times representing 10 and its design philosophy to the highest quality standard. They are required to act as a primary point of contact to clients and external consultants for all design related issues. The role also involves managing the architecture team, and coordinating with all other disciplines to ensure an appropriate, high quality architectural product is delivered on time and within the outline budget. This role requires a retail specialist with proven experience delivering innovative retail environments across Asia and internationally, with a forward-thinking approach to evolving retail trends.
Key Objectives
- Drive the development and growth of the Company
- Ensure overall profitability for design projects
- Responsible for managing, motivating and developing team members
- Provide thought leadership in retail design and contribute to the Company’s position in forward-focused retail development
Key Responsibilities
- Design
- Create and develop the design philosophy and vision of the Company
- Ensure consistent high quality of design generated throughout the Company
- Provide design direction and attend all key design discussions during project execution
- Identify trends and future design directions with a particular focus on emerging retail trends across Asia and global markets
- Review key design deliverables with the team
- Present the design at key meetings
- Ensure submittal of appropriate projects for design review awards
- Demonstrate understanding of evolving retail models and experiential / mixed-use retail projects / Retail renovation
- Project Management Responsibilities
- Define and implement processes and measures to ensure an appropriate level of client satisfaction is provided to clients at all times
- Commit to, and promote “Design Excellence” for all assignments / projects
- Define and implement processes and measures to ensure profitability of planning and design assignments is delivered
- Monitor and adjust resourcing plans to ensure adequate staff are resourced to meet the needs of the business
- Management Responsibilities
- Responsible for selecting and motivating team members and working with them to establish clear goals in line with the company objectives
- Responsible for the performance management of the team, including documenting annual performance reviews and development plans
- To ensure an annual training plan is developed and implemented for the team
- To deal with any poor performance issues as and when required
- Promote a learning culture within the team and encourage professional development
- Business Development
- In consultation with key stakeholders, define the business strategy
- Actively contribute to the winning of new business, and to drive the development of new business opportunities in line with agreed business goals
- To actively participate in strategic market programs, client development efforts, and key strategic affiliations
- Responsible for pre-selected / targeted clients and prospects and to assume primary client relationship prior to and including sales / closing efforts
- Leverage relationships with key sector clients, knowledge of retail market trends, key operators and brands across Asia and internationally to inform client strategies and opportunities
- General
- Support the continuous improvement processes and practice within the office and across the group
- To carry out such other duties which are consistent with the nature and responsibilities of the role
Qualifications
- Degree educated – RIBA Parts 1, 2 and 3 or equivalent
- Registered architect – ARB or equivalent in country of origin
- RIBA or equivalent membership preferred
- Project Management experience preferred
- Excellent design skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook)
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese are highly desirable
Experience
- Strong proven experience
- Experience acting in a management position within a consultancy
- Demonstrated experience in retail-led and mixed-use developments
- Previous experience in an office environment working as part of a team is preferred
