Job Description
Traffic Engineer
- Undertakes transportation planning and traffic engineering studies including:
- traffic management plans
- multi-modal transportation studies
- transportation master plans (TMP)
- municipal class environmental assessments (EA) studies
- active transportation master plan (ATMP) studies/projects
- transportation demand management (TDM) studies
- transit studies
- parking studies
- traffic operations and safety studies
- transportation impact studies (TIS)
- Actively participates in the preparation of proposals and writing reports including EAs, TMPs, AT, TIS, parking studies, etc.
- Completing traffic modelling and analysis with applicable design software (Synchro, VISSIM, VISUM, Aimsun, etc.).
- Acting as Project Manager and providing overall work management and technical performance on projects to ensure timelines and targets are being met.
- Providing mentorship, guidance, quality control, support and oversight of junior team members to complete various traffic engineering and transportation planning tasks.
- Attends and participates at client, stakeholders, and public meetings.
- Conduct and lead field studies (site visits, inventories, traffic, and parking counts, etc).
- Identify and participate in the acquisition of new clients and work (research and liaise with clients, network within the industry).
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships and communication with clients, department managers, internal and external leads.
Team Lead
- Assist with recruitment process.
- Assists with documentation for performance reviews.
- Responsible for H&S in the office.
- Achieve 55-60% utilization target.
- Responsible for managing timesheets.
- Help maintain backlog and pipeline reports.
- Work with the Traffic Manager to achieve financial targets for the fiscal year.
- Help lead and build the existing Traffic team in terms of client base and revenue.
- Collaborate with the Manager and VP on Strategic Growth Initiatives for the Traffic team.
- Providing mentorship, support and oversight of junior and intermediate staff and ensure staff development for the career growth of all direct reports.
- Acting as Project Manager and providing overall work management on projects to ensure timelines and targets are being met.
- Liaising with clients, government and/or regulatory bodies as well as contractors.
- Monitor utilization at a project level as well as group level and report any concerns to your Manager.
- Run and organize team huddles.
- Lead and/or assist with proposals:
- Maintain current overall success rate on MTO RFP’s (40% win).
- Coordinate and attend all other proposal debriefs for your geographic area.
- Assist with coordinating and attending MTO annual client meetings for business development.
- Assist with major pursuit proposals as required.
Qualifications
- University Degree in Transportation Engineering/Civil Engineering.
- P.Eng. License from the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
- 7-15 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning services in the consulting sector.
- Experience with GIS (ArcGIS), and using Auto Cad and Auto Turn software.
- Ability to manage technical analysis, using tools such as Synchro / Simtraffic.
- Experience using other transportation software and methods (e.g. HCS, CCG, VISSIM, VISUM, EMME, Aimsun, Vistro).
- Thorough knowledge of municipal and provincial review processes, guidelines, and standards.
- Project coordination and management experience.
- Demonstrated interest in business development activities and preparation of proposals.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
