USAID ACCELERATED QUALITY EDUCATION FOR LIBERIAN CHILDREN

USAID Accelerated Quality Education (AQE) for Liberian Children is a USAID-funded four-year project to provide AQE will seek to increase access to basic education for approximately 48,000 out of school children and adolescents, ages 8-15 and will be implemented in Bong, Grand Bassa, Lofa, Margibi, Montserrado, and Nimba.

Job Description

The Master Trainer will facilitate training and capacity building activities for MOE staff at the county level, with a focus on DEOs, school principals and teachers implementing accelerated learning programs (ALP). This position is part of a county team that supports the implementation of AQE in selected districts and schools. The Master Trainer will serve as the learning leader and will implement an integrated program of professional development that will include residential workshops, 1-day cluster training, independent study, and on the job experiential learning.

Master Trainers (MT) will conduct county-level workshops on ALP curriculum implementation; MOE ALP policies and procedures, including ALP site accreditation and the code of conduct; program quality standards; ALP summative assessments and systems; and other topics relevant to the successful implementation of AQE.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under the guidance of the AQE Professional Development Coordinator and in close collaboration with the AQE County team, schedule, implement and evaluate AQE’s integrated professional development and capacity building program for County Education Teams and principals and teachers
  • Implement capacity needs assessments and use results to inform professional development activities
  • Facilitate on-the-job experiential learning opportunities with district education officers
  • Facilitate county level and cluster-level workshops with teachers and principals on ALP teaching, learning and assessment materials
  • Provide feedback to AQE materials developers on the relevance and usefulness of training modules and resource materials
  • Support and work collaboratively with the MOE county education office team to ensure quality implementation of accelerated learning programs
  • Work with the AQE county team leader to ensure that training and other ABE support activities in the field are conducted to high standards and as per the work plan
  • Conduct these and other tasks as required in support of project goals

Qualifications

  • University degree or certificate from an accredited teacher training institute preferred
  • Secondary education and vocational training required
  • 3-4 years of experience as a teacher, principle, or DEO required
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Previous experience as a master trainer with MOE or NGO preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using participatory teaching methodologies
  • Excellent facilitation skills with demonstrated experience facilitating in a range of contexts and topics
  • Strong content knowledge in one or more subject areas (literacy/English language arts, numeracy/mathematics, science, social studies, life skills); educational leadership and policy; program quality standards
  • Experience and expertise in a designing and implementing wide-range of methods and approaches to professional development and capacity building
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with all participants, peers, and stakeholders
  • Must be able to work within a cross cultural setting, negotiate diplomatically, and function well under pressure
  • Knowledge of/experience with USAID-funded projects preferred
  • Ability to work as part of a county team and liaise closely with project staff in Monrovia
  • Proactive and creative, and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment
  • Culturally astute, respectful and tolerant
  • Willingness to travel frequently through the assigned county
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and other ICT tools

 

Additional Information

We are recruiting three Master Trainers for the county-level offices in KMontserrado, Lofa, Bong, Nimba, Margibi, and Grand Bassa. The Master Trainer reports to the AQE County Team Leader and collaborates with the AQE Professional Development Coordinator in Monrovia. This position will liaise with the Ministry of Education county-level counterparts as appropriate.
