Job Description

Ready to help solve complex engineering challenges at one of the UK’s most significant nuclear construction projects? Join a team where your expertise will shape the delivery of critical infrastructure, support safe and efficient installation on site, and contribute to a low-carbon future. At EDF, Success is Personal.

The Opportunity

As a JDO Piping Design Engineer, you'll support field design activities across the Hinkley Point C project, providing technical expertise to resolve piping, support and anchorage design challenges encountered during construction. You'll work with a wide range of stakeholders, helping ensure design solutions are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with project milestones.

You’ll join us on a salary starting of £57,000 per annum. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to attend the #HinkleyPointC site 3-4 days per week, working alongside colleagues and project partners on one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects.

Working within EDF EPR Engineering UK, you'll contribute to our journey towards An Electric Britain. You'll gain exposure to complex nuclear engineering challenges, collaborate within an international engineering environment, and play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of both Hinkley Point C and future nuclear projects.

EDF EPR Engineering UK delivers the design for nuclear island buildings, systems, and equipment for Hinkley Point C and similar projects. Working as part of an integrated team, EPR Engineering supports construction and commissioning while preparing design-replication feasibility and related engineering activities.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a JDO Piping Design Engineer with strong technical capability, attention to detail and experience working within complex engineering environments. You'll enjoy solving engineering challenges, collaborating across multiple disciplines, and delivering high-quality solutions. Are you experienced in…?

  • Holding a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Having at least three years' post-graduate experience in mechanical calculations, the nuclear industry or a comparable engineering environment
  • Working with EUROCODE, ASME and RCC-M codes
  • Using 2D and 3D design and calculation software within an engineering environment
  • Performing piping and support calculations
  • Working within multicultural or international project teams
  • Communicating fluently in English, both written and verbal

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing technical assessments and engineering support for piping design issues raised during site installation activities
  • Producing and resolving design queries including RFIs, FCRs and NCRs relating to piping, supports and anchorages
  • Carrying out mechanical calculations including piping flexibility assessments, support calculations and finite element analysis
  • Working with CAD designers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop and update design documentation
  • Supporting project delivery by ensuring engineering solutions meet quality, safety and programme requirements

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a salary starting of £57,000 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.
