MANAGER, OPTICAL COATING DEPARTMENT 

Job Description

This position – OPTICAL COATING DEPARTMENT MANAGER - will have responsibility for managing a Coating Department that consists of both Coating Engineers and Coating Technicians. The Coating Manager will have the following responsibilities:


• Scheduling working within Coating Department to meet multiple program needs. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: attending production schedule meetings, project assignments for technicians and for engineers, coating chamber resource loading, and determining priorities and resolving resource conflicts.  

• Oversight of equipment. This includes the following: work with equipment manager on maintenance and repair of coating chambers and accessories and service needs for coating measurement instruments. 

• Management of personnel. This includes: yearly performance reviews, career development, communication including holding regular staff meetings, and instilling adherence to standard processes. 

• Technical guidance. Emphasize quality and safety and foster a rigorous technical discipline to meet the requirements of high value aerospace parts. Drive effective root cause analyses when needed; help to provide resources needed to drive to effective corrective and preventative measures. 

• Forward thinking. Work with Program Managers and Operations Manager to develop and execute plans to meet future program needs, both in staffing and equipment.


Requirements:


Bachelor’s Degree or higher in technical field such as physics, chemistry, or engineering.

Years of Experience – 6-10+ years

Industry Experience – Aerospace a plus

Skill sets - Thin Films, Coating, Vacuum chambers

Acceptable Job Titles - Manager, Team Leader, Supervisor, Engineer


• Experience in management, preferably in department management.  

• Technical aptitude to understand coating deposition processes and vacuum chamber technology. 

Candidate will work in both Lab and office environments and will be exposed to various chemicals and solvents. Candidate will be required to wear appropriate PPE when required.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Candidate should have strong managerial skills, plus solid technical knowledge of thin film coating of optics (no need to be a subject matter expert but must have some technical knowledge in this field).   

Aerospace experience preferred.
