Job Description
Knowledgeable in the operation and initiation of all vital signs monitoring in the operating rooms, catheterization laboratories, intensive care units, and other patient areas. Knowledgeable about all anesthesia supplies and equipment. Displays excellent troubleshooting skills in handling monitor and equipment problems. Assists in the training of new employees. Completed a minimum of 2 years as an Anesthesia Technician II including proficiency examinations. Passed national certification examination for Certified Anesthesia Technician (CerAT) certified by American Society of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists (ASATT).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrates knowledge about all monitoring and anesthesia equipment and the use thereof, according to procedure manual standards. 2. Sets-up, checks calibrations and performance of all monitoring equipment before connecting to patients. 3. Inventories anesthesia and monitoring supplies and orders as needed. 4. Restocks and cleans anesthesia machines and carts daily following each procedure. 5. Follows Operating Room Scrub Attire procedure and departmental Infection Control Procedure. Cleans workrooms and disinfects equipment between patient usage. 6. Responds to Code Blue pages and assists with patient monitoring, defibrillations, and transport. Maintains current CPR certification. 7. Responds appropriately and performs all duties when assigned the pager for each location and when on ¿on call¿. 8. Takes an active role in the training of Anesthesia Technician I`s. Provides guidance and support for Anesthesia Technician II`s. 9. Completes and passes tests given by the Education Coordinator and completes and passes all hospital required safety in-services annually. 10. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. 11. Demonstrates the components of the ICARE values statement. 12. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Some College preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Work for 1 year as Anesthesia Technician I and for 2 years as Anesthesia Technician II and pass all tests given by the Education Coordinator with an 85% or better score.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Must be a Certified Anesthesia Technician (CerAT) certified by American Society of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists (ASATT). Individuals promoted to Anesthesia Technician III prior to April 2007 are not required to be Certified Anesthesia Technicians. However, they are required to take the certification examination at least annually until certification is achieved.
