The Principal Systems Architect plays a key role in shaping our technology strategy by applying expertise in strategic analysis, business architecture, and technology architecture. This role will seek to understand how people, processes, and technology interact to perform the fundamental activities of the business in both current and future states, and model these interactions to guide technology strategy in order to better achieve the strategic goals and objectives of the HR, Enterprise Content Management (ECM), Knowledge Management, Mobility and Productivity functions. Work in cross-functional teams to understand the linkage between business goals, business architectures, and technology architectures - and strive to further business goals via organic or inorganic evolution of our architectures. Compile, deliver, and evangelize end-to-end technology roadmaps that guide the evolution of products and services by applying depth and breadth of expertise in multiple related disciplines. Project architectural coverage generally: >4 concurrent projects. Projects span many technology domains and/or business areas with a high degree of complexity Delivery team size greater than 20-50.

 

As a Principal Systems Architect you will work as a part of the Business Solutions organization within Enterprise Systems, specifically the Business Solutions HR/ECM team. This position should have expert level understanding of HR and ECM software solutions, tools and technologies, data acquisition and integration, data architecture, web services, and SOA. The ideal candidate for this position should have performed as a Solutions Architect in the past and led technical project delivery for automation of ERP applications and customer or employee data mart implementations. The candidate should also have broad experience with Enterprise Applications and familiarity with physical implementation, as well as integrating with multiple real-time data sources. This role is for a HR/ECM/ERP expert with successful track record of architecting world class solutions with measureable impact.

 

The Principal Architect provides leadership within the Business Solutions team and is responsible for regular communications with Technical and Business Leadership Teams, Vendors and Partners, Analysts, Developers, QA Testers, Enterprise Architecture team, and support groups. This individual will also provide architectural solutions and have responsibility for overall solution design in various HR/ECM related projects and ensure that business requirements can be satisfied by the most efficient and effective solutions.

As a senior business solutions resource and subject matter expert, this team member will work closely with the requirements teams and business groups. 

 

Qualifications Qualifications

Minimum Required

 

Minimum 8-10 years related work experience

Has demonstrated depth and breadth of expertise in multiple related disciplines, such as HR Systems, Enterprise Content Management Systems, Mobility, Productivity and ‘Disruptive Innovation’ based expertise

Ability to articulate the relationship between business strategy and technology strategy

Experience working with vendors to evaluate, select, and implement 3rd party solutions.

Strong communication skills (written / verbal) with varied audiences

Experience explaining difficult concepts to decision makers to help shape technology strategy.

Experience modeling “as-is” and “to-be” architectures based on business requirements

Experience implementing HR, ECM, Mobility and Productivity automation solutions.

Capable of performing design and configuration of complex systems with a focus on best practices for scalability, supportability and ease of administration and system performance.

Understanding of the software development life-cycle, including traditional large-scale waterfall as well as Agile and Scrum-based models.

Excellent organization skills - ability to work effectively and independently prioritize tasks in a fast changing environment.

Familiarity with data warehousing components (data acquisition, ETL, data modeling, infrastructure, profiling and reporting)

Familiarity with web services implementations and service oriented architectures

Familiarity with reporting and analytics tools such as Business Objects and SAS.

Familiarity with data modeling techniques for 3NF, dimensional models and hyper-normalized models.

Understanding of fundamental Mobile Application Architecture Patterns including Web, Native, and Hybrid Mobile Applications.

Understanding of basic Mobile Application Security, Deployment, and Maintenance Strategies.

Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly in a team environment with team members of various technical skill levels.

5+ years experience with the following technologies

HR and ECM Management tools (Workday, SAP, Sharepoint, OpenText, Documentum)

Reporting, Analytic and OLAP tools

RDBMS (Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server)

Unix and Windows operating systems

ETL Tools (Informatica, SSIS, etc.)

Mobility Infrastructure components (Afaria, Mocana etc)

 

Education

Minimum Required

 

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field

 

 

Responsibilities Essential Functions

 

Compile, develop, and deliver architectural guardrails; influence stakeholders and ensure compliance with architectural guardrails within many technology domains that support the needs of project teams to reliably launch HR/ECM/Productivity/Mobility services

Prepare visual diagrams of system architecture, functionality, and process flows.

Grasp and communicate big-picture enterprise-wide issues to team.

Serve as a subject matter expert to guide technology strategy by convincing decision makers across multiple domains and working with Architects in each domain

Work with business teams and technical analysts to understand business requirements.

Determine how to leverage technology to create solutions that satisfy the business requirements.

Serve as a technical resource for business teams to help define, estimate, and propose solutions for business opportunities.

Provide critical architectural inputs during RFI and RFP process.

Create architecture and technical design documents to communicate solutions that will be implemented by the development team.

Create High Level Solution Design (HLSD) in support of Enterprise Projects and present HLSD to senior leadership during Capital Assessment reviews.

Develop proofs-of-concept (POC) and prototypes to help illustrate approaches to technology and business problems.

Work with development, infrastructure, test, and production support teams to ensure proper implementation of solution.

Educate organization on available and emerging toolsets.

Present solutions to clients, project teams, and other stakeholders adapting style to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to define service delivery landscape

Mentor team members on best practices in area of expertise. Identify and suggest training opportunities for immediate workgroup to help promote bench strength
