Job Description.

The team member’s number one job responsibility is to deliver the most remarkable patient experience, in every dimension, every time, and understand how he or she contributes to the health system’s vision of achieving that commitment to patients and families. 

Responsible for preparing sections of body tissue for examination by a pathologist to diagnose body dysfunction and malignancy. This includes the preparation of tissue specimens of human origin for diagnostic or teaching purposes. Histotechnicians process sections of body tissue by fixation, dehydration, embedding, sectioning, decalcification, microincineration, mounting and routine and special staining.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma required. HT (ASCP) certification or equivalent.

Experience/technical competence: Must have had at least one year of histopathology techniques comparable to those performed in this lab (Clinical internships of twelve months duration meet this requirement). Applicants certified as HT (ASCP) prior to baccalaureate degree requirement would be eligible. Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)' age. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.

Additional skills required: Ability to operate equipment both at sitting levels and/or standing levels. Flexibility and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts. Effective communication skills - listening, writing, talking, reading, via telephone, and Lab Information System. Ability to work efficiently and accurately. Ability to organize and plan work. Work effectively under stress.
