Job Description
The Regulatory Reporting Lead Analyst reports to the Regulatory Reporting Manager and is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation and filing of various financial regulatory reports in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, Company policies and procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles. The Analyst will participate in developing and interpreting financial policies and regulations; analyze and provide technical interpretation of accounting and regulatory changes. This position will also be required to research and monitor financial data to ensure data integrity. This is the most senior level of analyst and provides work direction and guidance to others in the team. May supervise another employee.
Major Responsibilities: 60% Preparation of assigned financial regulatory reports. • Produce organized workpaper documentation and detailed standalone desktop procedures timely in accordance with regulatory reporting instructions and in compliance with SOX, department policies, standards and procedures. • Conduct investigations of variance analysis and errors independently, escalate issues to management appropriately. • Ensure adherence to the Regulatory Reporting departmental standards, policies and procedures • Recommend procedural changes / process improvement opportunities to streamline our process, and ensure the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the reporting process. • Develop a strong knowledge of our systems and tools to utilize them effectively in our report preparation • Independently research and analyze regulatory pronouncements, reporting requirements and other accounting documents. Review and analyze financial publications and regulatory pronouncements and rules to stay abreast of changes. Present analysis and recommendations to management. • Respond to internal/external inquiries regarding financial data reported or filed. • Provide lead guidance to other staff members. May assist manager with review of schedules or work prepared by other analysts. • Maintain strong collaborative working relationships with the Business Unit Controllers, other data providers and ITG (Information Technology Group) to ensure reporting requirements and processes are clearly understood while gaining an understanding of their products and business/system changes to inform our analytics • Perform other projects or duties as assigned. 20% Lead the development and implementation of regulatory/accounting/business or system changes • Prepare in-depth analysis of impact on regulatory reports due to regulatory/policy changes/new products. • Clarify regulatory reporting requirements for our business unit and ITG data providers • Develop and execute test plans to test new data requirements or changes in our data sources to ensure timely regulatory compliance.
• Take a lead role in automation projects to further streamline our reporting process. • Work directly with divisional managers in major financial and IT projects that impact the Regulatory Reporting area. Establish close working relations and effective communications with other project participants, IT Group and software vendors. 20% Provide professional technical guidance to Senior Management and business units on the interpretation and analysis of regulatory or policy changes • Maintain knowledge of ongoing external trends in the financial area. • Provide on-going advice and training on regulatory reporting issues to all levels and areas of the Bank. • Ensure regulatory reporting requirements are clearly communicated to the business units providing source data for the reports. *LI-BW1 Qualifications Additional Information: • Strong, current understanding of banking regulatory reporting rules and regulations • Demonstrate a high degree of accuracy in data analysis and report preparation • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills • Solid ability to manage multiple priorities • Strong capability of working both collaboratively and independently to meet tight filing deadlines • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills • Proficient in Microsoft suite of products – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Accounting or finance degree is required • CPA or Chartered Accountant is strongly preferred • Big 4 Public Accounting auditing experience is strongly preferred, financial services auditing experience ideally • Minimum 10 years related experience, including a minimum of 3 years of experience preparing financial reports
