Job Description

The US Trading Team is responsible for maintaining and growing diversified income across the US market and providing support (as needed) to our colleagues regionally. The team is organized into two groups - Solutions and Commercial. Collectively the team develops a stable of value-creating products and partnerships. Solutions owns partnering with our clients, identifying needs/opportunities, and integrating these partnerships/solutions. Commercial own the discovery, negotiating and activation of partnerships as well as the sourcing and development of new products/solutions. Both teams interconnect and jointly deliver our US trading vision, Both teams work closely together to deliver the US trading vision, which is to improve business outcomes for clients and deliver value for all. This is a leadership role within the North American trading organization, and the Amplifi platform as a whole. Setting our strategic direction on who our major commercial partnerships should be and executing against those partnerships, as well as ensuring that everything we do is grounded in how we deliver better outcomes for advertisers. Working closely with the Chief Trading Officer – North America, the EVP will define and implement a plan that allows the region to achieve its ambitious growth goals, both in terms of value derived and driven for clients and financial performance. The EVP is expected to have a strong working knowledge of the media space and tools, as well as the finance and compliance processes inherent in a principal media and/or proprietary/value solution company, in particular pricing strategy, principal trading/buying and yield management. As a senior position within the regional and global commercial community, experience leading a commercial, sales, or trading division is preferred – as well as a track record in having managed a budget and a media or business portfolio. The EVP will be responsible for developing the Commercial unit, developing their skills, evaluating their performance, and managing their growth. Working alongside counterparts in the dentsu organization, the EVP is expected to take part in larger areas of agency development – aiding new business, collaborating across teams, and participating in dentsu learnings. This role is a step toward greater leadership within the network.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Identifies, negotiates, and delivers commercial partnerships with existing and new partners across media, technology and content ecosystems. Ensures the correct processes, structures and talent are in place within the wider team to execute this core requirement effectively.
• Consistently source the wider ecosystem for new opportunities, and ensure that any potential opportunities can be quickly converted for maximum value
• Working with the Chief Trading Officer, define the annual trading and commercial strategy, and ensure that this is landed across their wider team, and ultimately executed
• Working with the Chief Trading Officer to create and maintain a pipeline of commercial opportunities that ultimately deliver against the financial growth targets across the region
• Pricing strategy and yield management for proprietary products and services, as well as the ability to work with product and strategy teams to identify capability gaps that can be filled by new proprietary products/services or solutions
• Analyzing data and understanding market patterns in order to generate strategic revenue opportunities
• Recognizes the general media landscape, including leading and emerging media channels/partners
• Collaborates with internal team to contribute to day-to-day strategic work for client(s) & commercial analysis for deals and partnerships
• Oversees the financial tracking and reporting of deals and client spend trends

Client & Internal Relationships:
• Manage expectations for deliverables and ensure that feedback from teams is addressed in the negotiation process
• Thorough understanding of all elements of investment and revenue-generating partnerships and contracts/agreements
• Looks to identify opportunities to improve revenue generation, whether by creating new products/partnerships, identifying new partners or client opportunities, or margin improvement
• Serve as a resource for Directors, VPs, SVPs, for advice, counsel and mentorship
• Participate and present in New Business efforts and presentations, where appropriate
• Establish strong internal relationships with other service line personnel

• Balance, prioritize and properly assign work associated with multiple, concurrent projects
• Provide guidance to team members and nurture/promote team environment
• Ensure key information is being provided to the team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status, etc.
• Is approachable and solution-oriented when presented with problems/issues by staff and team
• Responsible for constructing and delivering accurate, honest and timely performance management documents
• Is mindful of the client’s point of view when reviewing work, leverage this perspective when providing feedback to team
• Breaks down problems and issues into critical parts which can be resolved
• Oversees management of specific projects as assigned and maintain overall plan quality control
• Is an engaged member of the media industry, and proactively solicits and contributes innovative ideas

Qualifications

• 15+ years of analytical experience within media environment (sales or agency), experience in a barter, trading division, procurement or commercial division preferred.
• Strong negotiator, with experience in managing a portfolio of multi-million dollar deals at once
• An ability to balance commercial necessity while being client-centric at all points
• Experience in knitting together internal capabilities (technology, tools) with partner capabilities to generate novel offerings and/or product lines
• Possesses advanced numeracy skills and a data-led approach to decision-making
• Ability to articulate strategic foundation for their development
• Strong industry profile within the US market, as well as proven leadership skills and management experience
