Job Description

The Client Accounting Director plays a key role in the newly centralized and specialised Client Accounting (CA) team and will be accountable for the integrity of client financial data and the linking of same to operational and financial systems for appropriate revenue recognition. This role is also accountable to ensure client contract assurance is conducted according to the service line compliance framework and dentsu policies.

This role reports to the VP, Head of Client Accounting and works closely with the Commercial Finance, Financial Control, Operational Finance and Client Services teams and manages the day-to-day tasks and deliverables of the Client Accounting Analysts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Revenue Recognition Subject Matter Expert and Contract Maintenance 
  • Oversee the maintenance of the contractual information database to support revenue recognition 

  • Provide technical revenue recognition guidance in accordance with dentsu’s revenue recognition policy and IFRS 15 in order to properly recognise revenue 

  • Perform technical guidance (IFRS 15) research to provide solutions and options to new and complex issues 

  • Serve as one of the primary contacts for revenue recognition related technical accounting matters 

  • Partner with Commercial Finance and Client Teams to provide revenue recognition guidance during contract negotiations 

  • Manage and own the contract revenue write-up process and partner with dentsu’s external auditors to ensure the accuracy of revenue is maintained. In addition, develop and prepare technical revenue memos in partnership with dentsu’s external auditors to ensure they are discussed and signed off in a timely manner 

  • Fulfill information requests for internal, external financial and client audits 

  • Ensure that statements of work/POs are compliant and assessed for potential risks  

  • Develop and implement tools, templates and systems for the appropriate classification and reporting of revenue 

  • Ensure that statements of work/POs are agreed and signed before work is undertaken 

  • Ensure projects/campaigns are set-up accurately and in accordance with the statements of work/insertion orders. 

  • Oversee the production and reconciliation of monthly booking schedules to support revenue recognition 

  • Liaise with Finance and Client Teams to ensure the completeness of revenue for period end reporting 

  • Participate in and provide the required inputs for the month-end close review meeting with the Commercial Finance and Financial Control Teams 

  • Work closely with Commercial Finance, Client Teams, and FP&A as it relates to revenue forecasting 

  • Work closely with Client Teams to build relationships and understanding the service offerings and deliverables provided 

  • Oversee month end tasks to verify client revenue and the review of client balances (WIP, prebill, trade receivables, and accrued and deferred income balance sheet accounts in liaison with RTR, Commercial Finance and, Client Teams 

  • Perform and own JSOX controls as it relates to revenue and revenue related balance sheet accounts (i.e., client balances) 

  • Drive continuous improvements in the processes for reporting revenue 

  • Develop and ensure maintenance of KPI dashboards to support the Client Teams by providing an up-to-date and accurate view of projects/jobs 

  • Liaise with Operations Team to ensure the accuracy of client invoicing  

  • Routine liaison with Commercial Finance and Client Teams to better understand the scope of services and solve real-time issues and concerns 

  • Manage and develop direct reports, including career development and succession planning 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field 

  • CPA (or equivalent) / advanced degree preferred  

  • Experience in a similar finance/accounting role (min. 5 years) 

  • Some industry experience in client accounting and assurance processes 

  • Knowledge of D365, Nexelus, MediaOcean or similar client job costing/media booking and accounting platforms 

SKILLS 

  • Ability to demonstrate strong Microsoft Excel and system skills 

  • Proven ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritise multiple, conflicting deadlines under pressure and navigate effectively amidst ambiguity and change 

  • Exhibit a problem-solving mindset and strong work ethic 

  • Proven leadership and team management skills 

  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills across a wide range of stakeholders, exhibiting relationship building capabilities and influencing collaborative outcomes 

  • Possess a drive for continuous improvement and performance excellence in their area of responsibility 

  • Able to educate and instil awareness across the business on revenue recognition principles 

  • Able to understand the different kinds of revenue streams

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $113,000-$182,850. Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and geography. Additionally, this position is eligible for discretionary incentive compensation. The company’s incentive compensation plan is subject to change.
