Job Description

The Associate Director will work closely with the Chief Trading Officer (NA), President (NA), and the Chief Investment Officer (USA) to deliver and enhance our existing media investment, reporting and business intelligence capabilities across the dentsu Media service line. This role is a core component of Amplifi’s strategy to deliver a best-in-class media buying capability as well as a leading-edge product set. The role will involve collaboration with all dentsu Media business units, particularly Trading (particularly the Manager, Commercial Partnerships & Analytics), Investment, the Media Brands (iProspect, Carat, DentsuX, and MuteSix), and Finance.

The Associate Director will be tasked redesigning our existing processes around forecasting, business case development, and data visualization for key Amplifi datasets – and delivering these outputs on a regular basis. Working closely with the Chief Trading Officer (NA), President (NA), and the Chief Investment Officer (USA), The Associate Director will support the change in processes, schemas, tools and owners that these developments will entail. The Associate Director, Business Intelligence will be the point person within Amplifi where business analysis, intelligence or visualization is required – for example, new product modelling and business cases; media spend reporting (including the dentsu annual media spend reports); trading and media owner spend analyses (including future spend models).

This is an important role in the North American Amplifi community, and while it does not include any direct reports at this stage, collaboration with teams in Canada and the United States – as well as offshore resources – will be necessary to deliver on the role’s requirements. The Associate Director is expected to have a strong working knowledge of the media space and tools, as well as the finance and compliance processes inherent in a media buying business. This role is a step toward greater leadership within the network.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop an optimized billings and media spend forecast process and system, working with senior stakeholders across media agencies (e.g. Client Leaders) and scaled services (e.g. Investment)
  • Manage the consolidation of forecast and visualization/analysis of findings on a periodic basis
  • Aid Product & Trading teams in developing profitability models for new and existing deals/products
  • Preparation of all ad spend forecasts across North America as part of dentsu’s Global ad spend forecasts
  • Work closely with key stakeholders in Finance, Investment and Trading to develop on our automation goals
  • Develop a suite of dashboards/visualization solutions for key processes/datasets – forecasts, actuals, product profitability analysis, etc.
  • Analyzing data and understanding market patterns to generate strategic revenue opportunities
  • Works closely with the Manager, Commercial Partnerships & Analytics to optimize intelligence used in the Trading processes
  • Act as a trusted bridge between Finance and Investment/Trading teams when optimizing processes and workflows involving reporting, forecasting and actualization
  • Employ best practice supply-side management as well as compliance and ethics standards

Client & Internal Relationships:

  • Become the ambassador for commercial partnerships, Agyle, Amplifi and any other products within the group
  • Ensure that the Trading Team is accurately managing expectations for deliverables
  • Ensure that feedback from teams is addressed in partner select and negotiation process
  • Thorough understanding of all elements of investment and revenue-generating partnerships and contracts/agreements – and an ability to pass this knowledge on to direct reports and junior members
  • Looks to identify opportunities to improve our operations, business insights and intelligence – whether directly relating to role or otherwise
  • Serve as a resource for Managers and Assistants, for advice, counsel and mentorship
  • Participate and present in New Business efforts and presentations, where appropriate
  • Establish strong internal relationships with other service line personnel

Ad Spend Tracking

  • Preparation of dentsu ad spend market forecasts at least twice a year as part of dentsu global ad spend report for USA and Canada.   Where available, compare our ad spend forecast to other holding companies and industry groups
  • Monthly tracking of dentsu ad spend versus the market across North America. Using SMI as the source prepare detailed insights on channel mix, mix by industry vertical, pricing etc. By market.

Strategic Thinking & Leadership

  • Balance, prioritize and properly assign work associated with multiple, concurrent projects
  • Provide guidance to team members and nurture/promote team environment
  • Sets the standards, tone as well as people and process for the wider Canadian trading team
  • Ensure key information is being provided to the team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, changes in account status, etc.
  • Is approachable and solution-oriented when presented with problems/issues by staff and team

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of analytical experience within media environment (sales or agency)
  • Strong negotiator and advanced numeracy skills
  • Ability to articulate strategic foundation for their development
  • Proficient in Dashboard/BI Tools (Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Strong attention to detail and standards-based approach to management
  • Proven leadership skills and management experience 
  • Some programming, or no / low code experience (SQL, Python, R) preferred

The anticipated salary range for this position is $95,000-$120,000. Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related 
qualifications, and geography.
