Job Description

We are expanding our legal team and are looking for an exceptional and experienced commercial lawyer for a role in the dentsu’s Americas Legal and Compliance team. The role will focus on dentsu’s customer experience management (“CXM”) service line, reporting to Deputy General Counsel, CXM Americas. The CXM service line’s heritage in data, technology, and analytics forms the foundation for its unmatched skills in understanding consumer insights that drive people-based marketing strategies. Its combined strengths in performance media, customer experience, customer relationship management, loyalty, identity, data management, and enterprise marketing technology drive improved marketing results and competitive advantage. The successful candidate will join a large and vibrant international community of lawyers who provide practical and focused legal advice supporting dentsu as it drives sustainable business growth for our clients.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about marketing, data, technology, and their intersection, and will bring energy and enthusiasm to the role. There is plenty of opportunity to develop professional and personal skills, take a leading role in the Legal and Compliance team, and work alongside senior management as a trusted business advisor. A keen interest in learning about new technologies and data practices is critical.

Responsibilities of the role include the following:

  • Provides legal and strategic advice to stakeholders at various levels of the organization (including executive-level boards and committees) on relevant subjects to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and protection of dentsu’s commercial interests.​
  • Drafts, negotiates and advises on complex commercial agreements.​
  • Provides legal support (templates, advice, risk management, subject matter knowledge) to accelerate and underpin the expansion of company strategy.​
  • Provides legal support on various matters to commercial teams in contractual negotiations to achieve the most advantageous and/or beneficial legal and commercial terms for Dentsu.​
  • Develops and delivers training and legal risk management initiatives to senior management to strategically manage legal risks (e.g. business training, legal updates, etc.).​
  • Implements best-practices in compliance, contracts management, intellectual property, data privacy, IT, litigation and/or M&A (as appropriate, having regard to the Senior Legal Counsel’s specialist area).  ​
  • Delivers cost-effective handling of existing litigation and disputes to dentsu’s best interests, including timely and accurate reporting.​
  • Responsibility for managing and developing junior lawyers.
  • Leads and manages projects working directly with leadership from across the dentsu business, inside and outside of the legal and compliance team.
  • Is a key driver of business performance and culture by acting as a role model and applying our people leader accountabilities to create an engaging employee experience for your team that inspires people to be the best they can be and supports them in executing our collective business vision and achieving our business goals.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in commercial transactions, with particular preference for those with experience in marketing, advertising, technology, data, intellectual property, privacy, or licensing.
  • Experience working with executive stakeholders.
  • Experience with management of projects, teams, and junior lawyers.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Possesses a law degree (e.g., Juris Doctor) from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Knowledge of legal principles in relation to contract law, marketing/advertising law, data, intellectual property, licensing, data privacy, and dispute resolution.
  • Some experience in risk management compliance programs including the drafting of policies and procedures and training.
  • Some experience in leading internal investigations and writing investigation reports
  • Good knowledge of corporate governance
  • Strong presentation and communication skills

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $136,000-$238,000. Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and geography. Additionally, this position is eligible for discretionary incentive compensation. The company’s incentive compensation plan is subject to change.
