Job Description

The Commercial Finance Director works in partnership with the Growth Team, Account Leads and the Commercial finance team to develop and lead a commercially strong account with financial support, management, compliance, and visibility to facilitate the growth, success, and profitability of Merkle. This role is expected to be interfacing with clients to lead or co-lead negotiation and drive solutions offering.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

1) Provide a commercial service level across Merkle Accounts

  • Understand the terms of each client relationship and architect ways to improve profitability over time (be a partner in the growth plan)
  • Drive implementation of action plans to improve Agency performance on account through APRAIS/TRR gap analysis by stakeholder.  Develop a business assessment and plan to address needs including skillset remix, training, and process. Focus on underperforming areas.
  • Drive staffing efficiencies, cost reductions and profit improvement vs. Prior Year. Support development of aligned client profitability reporting across accounts. Maximize revenue re-balancing between markets/opcos where necessary
  • Lead overall pricing strategy for the organization and help to improve current pricing tool and implement future CPQ software
  • Partner with each of the high priority) Client Leaders to develop strategic agenda, optimize operations and manage risk and compliance
  • Define and execute on critical commercial needs of these clients. For example:  
  • Four contracts need to be streamlined w/ one SLA.
  • SOWs that need to be renegotiated due to change in scope.
  • Budgets are being cut and need to define creative solutions to meet expectation while minimizing impact.
  • Lead commercial team with negotiation strategies and implementation plans. 
  • Attend and lead client negotiations, where critical.
  • Align with the procurement and financial stakeholders on the client side and form a helpful relationship
  • Liaison with legal and other internal stakeholders; ability to represent the client expectation and get to a quick/balanced response. Resolve client commercial, financial, legal disputes.

2)  Lead client discussion and negotiations where needed

  • Partner with account directors, ICCL Group and Commercial team to determine critical areas where client commercial leadership is needed.
  • Expansion of opportunities across brands/LOBs with a holistic commercial approach with savings for client
  • Excellence in contract negotiation and adherence:  lead structure of and negotiation of complex global or regional level contract negotiations
  • Attend client meetings to address commercial issues

3)     Support the commercial development of dentsu-integrated solutions-oriented client services that drive top-line growth

  • Work together with the group ICCL director and account leads to drive integrated solutions to our clients
  • Develop KPIs to assess business progress and success

4)     Share commercial best practices within Merkle brands. 

5)     Drive Internal Alignment on Commercial Issues with Key Stakeholders

·       Align with CFO if there is a meaningful change in the terms that impacts financials up/down.

·       Work with CFO and commercial team to streamline addition of new service, or to address billing, operation, Accts Payable, work ahead of contract requirements, other disconnects by different agencies supporting same Client

·       Partner with the commercial lead on the business to and begin to streamline approach, applying best practices across the group

 

Qualifications

The purpose of the role is to work with the Regional/Market CFO and CEO as well as other stakeholders to increase profitability, drive improved cashflow and reduce risks across the market/region. Commercial Finance has over-arching responsibility for the quality and accuracy of all forecasts and budgets, to provide leadership to the Commercial Finance function across the region and to ensure there is a regular and systematic reporting of insight and analysis covering key focus areas such as revenue, margin, costs as well as client profitability and cashflows.

Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and geography.
