Director, Network Engineering

  • Full-time

Job Description

Isobar Public Sector is seeking a Director of Network Engineering with experience advising large organizations to procure, architect, implement, secure, and operate state-of-the-art computer networks.  The ideal candidate must be able to drive discovery workshops with network engineers, systems architects, and business stakeholders to discover the “as-is” state of complex networks and to elicit future-state networking requirements, with a focus on reliability, responsiveness, security, and resilience.  In addition, the candidate must be able to drive the definition of the future-state network architecture, identify and evaluate key vendors and products that would support the architecture, and provide advice on the most cost-effective ways to acquire commercially-available networking infrastructure and services.

What You’ll Do

  • Advise client’s program management office (PMO) and internal consulting team on network engineering and network security topics
  • Share knowledge of industry trends and best practices for procuring, implementing, and operating networks with the client and internal consulting team
  • Create presentations and lead discussions with senior executives and stakeholders on topics related to networking
  • Drive discovery activities related to understanding current-state architecture, current networking pain points, and future requirements related to network infrastructure and services
  • Create network diagrams (logical and notional) to clearly communicate the current and future state of network architecture and activities
  • Facilitate strategic planning workshops and the creation of roadmaps related to networking capabilities
  • Facilitate the creation of network-related maturity models and identify appropriate benchmarks that will allow for a meaningful assessment of the client’s current-state network (as compared to commercial and public-sector leaders in networking)
  • Provide subject matter expertise support to authors of RFIs, RFPs, and other documents required to support the client’s PMO, and assist in the formulation of an appropriate acquisition strategy for networking services and infrastructure
  • Define the architectural vision for future-state networks
  • Define key SLAs/KPIs used to measure networking excellence
  • Identify and evaluate vendors and products that can help realize the future-state architectural vision for the client’s networks
  • Be an influential communicator that is able to influence client actions and decisions on networking topics
  • Manage overall client communications related to networking topics
  • Identify real constraints and offer innovative solutions to constraints that result from institutional inertia

Who You Are

  • A US Citizen and hold an active Secret Security Clearance
  • Minimum 10 years architecting and operating large-scale networks including Quality of Service (QoS), that support enterprise applications and data solutions, with a strong understanding of the fundamentals of cybersecurity
  • Mastery of modern networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP)
  • Expertise in LAN/WAN design, routing and switching, packet analysis, DNS and DHCP, virtualizing network components and services, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), and network automation
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust Architecture and principles

  • Mastery of network monitoring tools and troubleshooting techniques
  • Experience leading a large organization through a major IT transformation project with a significant networking component, through procurement of new network services, or through the migration of an existing network to a new infrastructure and set of networking services is a major plus
  • Experience with the design and building of cloud solutions, including interconnectivity with SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS cloud architectures across multiple cloud providers is a plus
  • Experience working on a DoD (preferably US Air Force) program within the past 5 years
  • Excellent written and verbal communication is as important as mastery of network engineering
