Job Description

The Director of User Experience will oversee a multidisciplinary team to conceive and design engaging and effective websites, apps and digital experiences. You possess critical-thinking, creative problem-solving skills, and can perceive a product’s design as an extension of a client’s business strategy while ensuring that it is intuitive and a joy to use. You play an important role in maintaining the UX vision from concept to completion, leading research, ideation and design, while managing junior UX practitioners and collaborating with creative and technology counterparts in a co-creation environment. You are passionate about exceptional design, crafting frictionless user experiences and have a deep appreciation for uncovering simple solutions to complex problems. You will work both autonomously and as part of a collective, guiding your team through collaborative workflows with other disciplines while upholding the high design-thinking led standards of the agency. A dynamic and confident personality, you will liaise with clients to share ideas, manage expectations and facilitate engaged participation in the design process

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the thought leadership of an interdisciplinary team that includes other experience designers, visual designers, copywriters, technologists, business analysts, strategists, and project managers within Isobar and our client counterparts
  • Lead and mentor a team of UX and UI designers and strategists by fostering an inspiring and motivating learning environment
  • Shepherd the design process, drive decisions, track issues, and assist in client communications and estimating resource needs and schedules
  • Plan, facilitate, or participate in client presentations, workshops, discussions, user research, requirements gathering, and usability testing activities
  • Drive the creation of personas, journeys, scenarios, wireframes, prototypes, workflows, interaction and experience models, and functional specifications, and ensure deliverables are client-ready
  • Work closely with client teams to uncover business needs, develop design strategies, present and defend the design team’s work, and build consensus
  • Demonstrate strong command of user-centered design principles, applying them skillfully to a wide variety of platforms and devices while looking for opportunities to innovate
  • Employ advanced techniques and methodologies to improve the UX process through rapid prototyping, remote testing etc.
  • Act as a mentor to more junior team members, and be a constant advocate for great-user centered design

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in digital design practice, with experience managing small teams of other designers and leading user research and usability testing
  • Strong knowledge of user-centered design principles, methodologies, best practices and approaches, particularly as applied to web- and mobile-based applications
  • Demonstrated experience and portfolio examples of complex design problem-solving efforts for sophisticated transactional digital products or services for major brands (e.g. complex CMS implementations, eCommerce solutions, custom digital product or service solutions, omnichannel implementations, etc.)
  • Experience with design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, InVision, Adobe XD, Figma and web-based frameworks
  • Excellent communication, organization and team interaction skills
  • Commitment to constantly improving one’s skills, staying current with developments and trends in the industry, and sharing this knowledge with others
