Job Description

This position will become part of a team of professionals supporting the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Command, Control, and Communications (C3) office which is responsible for ensuring emergency operations are maintained. If disruptions such as national emergencies, natural disasters, or equipment malfunctions occur, the C3 office is chartered with restoring the communication services expeditiously. The engineer will provide user support and customer service at the Washington Operations Center for FAA supported computer applications and platforms.

Specific responsibilities of the Help Desk Technician include:

  • Respond to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, and electronically
  • Thorough understanding of IT Projects and Terminology
  • Provides IT level 1/2/3 IT engineering support
  • Manage, Maintain and troubleshoot VTC/Polycom systems
  • Diagnose and resolve technical hardware and software issues
  • Research questions using available information resources
  • Advise user on appropriate action
  • Follow standard help desk procedures
  • Log all help desk interactions
  • Redirect problems to appropriate resource
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention
  • Track and route problems and requests and document resolutions
  • Stay current with system information, changes and updates
  • Obtain a working knowledge of FAA IT security policies in order to recognize potential or real breaches
  • Ability to recognize security and privacy incidents and respond appropriately following the directions of incident response procedures
  • Ability to direct others in following security requirements and adherence to FAA security policies and user agreement

Qualifications

Applicants must maintain a Secret Clearance or higher.

  • Bachelor’s Degree Computer Science, Engineering, math, or science degrees
  • 3 years relevant experience in a help desk environment
  • 8 years relevant experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Must be willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule to include nights, weekends, and on call support
  • Experience with Windows 7 and Windows 10 security configuration, Active Directory
