Job Description

Crown seeks a Safety Engineer to perform analysis work for our Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) customer. The selected candidate will evaluate commercial equipment for use in the National Airspace System by developing Operational Safety Assessments (OSA) and minimum technical requirements. The selected individual will conduct independent reviews of vendor documentation, including safety documentation, requirements documentation, configuration management and quality assurance plans, software assurance plans, training material, and commercial instruction books. Work may also include research into alternative certification methodologies and assisting with drafting policy documentation. Work activities include:

  • Planning for FAA OSA and other forms of Safety Risk Management Documents
  • Drafting FAA Safety Risk Management Documents
  • Assessing proposed safety strategies and designs for compliance with appropriate standards
  • Drafting of technical requirements
  • Independent review of vendor system documentation
  • Providing feedback to vendor applicants regarding deficiencies in submittals
  • Participating in meetings with vendor applicants for FAA system approval

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

This position has the following minimum requirements:

  • Bachelors in Engineering, Math, or Science degree is required
  • Eight years of relevant experience is required

Desired Skills

The selected candidate will demonstrate proficiency in the following:

  • System Safety Assessment guidelines such as ARP 4761 and ARP 4754
  • Design Assurance standards such as RTCA/DO-178/278, RTCA/DO-254, and EUROCAE/ED-153
