Job Description

As a Mechanical Designer/Drafter you will work with the Hardware Engineering and Industrial Design teams to create and modify 3D and 2D models and drawings to enable the fabrication of Cricut® products, including Cricut® cutting machines, Bright Pads and Easy Presses and other products on the technology road map.

Essential Duties:

  • Create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings in Creo 4.0
  • Support the engineering team in the creation of 2D drawings and specs
  • Design mechanical components (shafts, gears, springs, etc.), sheet metal, plastic components and housings and components in support of new products.
  • Develop cost estimates based on product concepts or designs
  • Apply basic engineering principles and best practices to designs.
  • Specify materials and components in designs. 
  • Work directly with Industrial Design to enable the design vision.
  • Present and participate in design reviews and update designs as required.
  • Keep appraised of the customer experience related to company products.
  • Work with design and/or manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability and smooth product ramps leading up to production.
  • Perform testing of designs to prove functionality and reliability. 
  • Generate design specifications and drawings for external design and manufacturing activities.
  • Apply statistical methods such as process capability studies and DOE’s in the development and improvement of products.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience designing consumer based products, electro-mechanical devices, medical devices or similar.
  • Must be proficient in solid modeling in Creo
  • Demonstrate use of feature-based design principles in 3D modeling
  • Understand basic engineering principles
  • Aptitude for mechanism design and function is a plus
  • Experienced in injection molded plastics design and an understanding injection molding tooling practices
  • Familiar with sheet metal design and fabrication processes
  • Familiar with rapid prototype techniques and processes
  • Understand and apply GD&T practices
  • Effective communicator
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction

Qualifications

  • Associates, Bachelors or equivalent Mechanical Design
  • 5 years minimum experience in Mechanical Design
