Introduction

As ISOLDE Physics Coordinator, you will support world-leading research using radioactive ion beams by managing the experimental programme and liaising between researchers and technical teams running the facility.

The ISOLDE Facility (http://isolde.web.cern.ch) is an internationally leading facility dedicated to the production of radioactive ion beams for research across a wide range of disciplines including nuclear physics, atomic and molecular physics, condensed-matter physics and material science, life science and medical applications. ISOLDE is part of the Small and Medium Experiments (SME) Group within the Experimental Physics Department (EP). It provides a stimulating scientific atmosphere and is an important centre for the European physics communities, contributing to the development of young scientists.

Functions

As ISOLDE Physics Coordinator, you will be responsible for the management of the experimental physics programme at the ISOLDE Facility. As the liaison between experimental users and the CERN technical teams, you will help to maximise the scientific output of the facility. In particular, your activities will include:

  • Developing the ISOLDE beam time schedule and oversee its implementation, in collaboration with ISOLDE technical teams.
  • Coordinate the implementation of experimental equipment in the ISOLDE Hall in collaboration with research teams.
  • Act as scientific secretary to the ISOLDE and Neutron Time-of-Flight Committee (INTC).
  • Report to the INTC and the ISOLDE Collaboration Committee (ISCC) about the ISOLDE experiment program.
  • Serve as Group Leader in Matters of Safety (GLIMOS).
  • When required, act as Deputy ISOLDE Physics Section Leader.
  • Participate in scientific research in any aspect of the ISOLDE experimental programme.

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of experimental physics or a related field.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated postdoctoral experience in a scientific field related to the ISOLDE experimental programme.
  • Research experience using radioactive ion beams.
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of ISOL techniques for radioactive beam production.

The following experience would be an asset:

  • Knowledge of the ISOLDE Facility and its scientific programme.
  • Some exposure to project or organisational management.

  • Knowledge and application of beam production techniques

Language skills:

  • Proficient spoken and written English. Ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations.
  • Ability to speak French would be an advantage.

Employment Conditions

Contract type: Limited duration contract (3 years). Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.
