The Mission

Carousell is building on its classifieds and recommerce leadership to transform into an AI-first commerce ecosystem. We are forming a lean, high-velocity AI-Native Special Projects unit to build the future of AI agents for millions of sellers. As the Lead, you will lead a lean team of generalist product engineers to build sales and marketing assistants powered by AI. You will report to the Co-founder and Group CEO. 

This role is open in Singapore and China.

Your Role: The Product Architect

You are the bridge between Carousell’s large first-party data moat and traffic, and the end-user experience. You will be 70% builder and 30% strategist. You will not manage via spreadsheets; you will lead by setting the architectural vision while also leading by executing and shipping hands-on.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead through Execution: Architect and build the first versions of our AI agents. You are the "First Engineer" on this team.

• Rapid Iteration: Move from "What if?" to a working prototype in days. You value Velocity over Complexity.

• AI Orchestration: Design and implementation of custom multi-agent AI solutions, integrating both state-of-the-art LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) or suitable open models using modern orchestration frameworks such as Langchain’s LangGraph to create dynamic and scalable AI agents.

• Data Strategy: Work with our data teams to turn the trove of proprietary first part data into fine-tuned context for our AI agents.

• Team Leadership: Lead, grow and edit a lean team of AI-native full-stack generalists who share your bias for action and product-first mindset.

• Product Discovery: Spend time with prospective customers, including Carousell merchants, to understand their pain points. You define the problem before you build the solution.

The Technical Profile

• AI Native: You understand foundational model latent space and RAG-enhanced architectures, and how to handle non-deterministic outputs. You know when an LLM is the answer and when a simple heuristic is better.

• Full-Stack Capability: You can navigate the entire stack—from highly scalable Golang and Python-based agentic backends to a polished Flutter interface for cross platform UI/UX.

• Cross-functional collaboration: Bonus if you have the experience to collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate modern AI stacks into Carousell’s existing infrastructure without getting bogged down in red tape.
