Job Description
Job Purpose
The Assistant Valves Technician supports the Valves Technician in the execution of the full valve rehabilitation lifecycle within the workshop. The role assists in receipt, inspection, disassembly, cleaning, repair, testing, and documentation of valves while maintaining traceability and adherence to quality standards. The Assistant contributes to efficient workflow by supporting technical activities, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with all safety and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workshop Intake & Valve Receipt
Assist in receiving valves, tagging and logging each item against job cards or work orders. Support initial visual inspection and documentation of valve condition.
2. Valve Rehabilitation & Repair Support
Assist in disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of valves including gate, globe, ball, butterfly, and check valves. Support basic repairs including lapping and packing replacement under supervision.
3. Testing Support
Assist in hydraulic and pneumatic pressure testing, leak testing, and recording of test results in accordance with acceptance criteria.
4. Technical Reporting & Communication
Provide updates to the Valves Technician on work progress. Assist in preparing job cards, test records, and basic technical reports.
5. Service Provider Support
Support handling and preparation of components for external machining or specialist work. Assist in inspection of returned components.
6. PO & Workflow Support
Assist in tracking valves awaiting approval and ensure no work progresses without instructions from the supervisor.
7. Records & Traceability
Maintain accurate job records, parts usage logs, and ensure documentation is updated within required timelines.
8. Site Walkdown Support
Assist senior technicians during site visits to identify valve conditions and capture relevant data.
9. Safety, Quality & Workshop Maintenance
Adhere to all HSE procedures, maintain PPE compliance, and ensure proper housekeeping. Assist in maintaining tools and workshop equipment.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a mechanical workshop or maintenance environment.
Basic knowledge of industrial valves and mechanical tools. - Ability to read basic drawings, follow procedures, and maintain records.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
