Job Description
The BSW Permit Analyst plays a critical role in supporting Brightspeeds buried service program by establishing strong relationships with municipalities, permitting authorities, and pole owners. This role partners closely with internal teams and vendor partners to obtain required permits, remove roadblocks, and ensure projects progress smoothly and on schedule. The ideal candidate is an organized communicator who excels at coordination, problem‑solving, and proactive issue management. This role requires strong collaboration to enhance our operational effectiveness and support the overall goals of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with internal teams to present the buried service program to municipalities.
- Host calls, collect permitting contacts, and document permit requirements and processes.
- Identify potential permitting issues early and drive resolution before construction begins.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with permitting entities.
- Serve as the liaison between permitting entities, engineering and buried service teams.
- Partner with engineering teams to identify and resolve roadblocks that impact progress.
- Facilitate communication with vendors and permitting authorities to ensure issues are addressed.
- Escalate unresolved issues when needed.
- Track aging and priority permits; engage permitting entities to move reviews forward.
- Communicate permit issues to vendors and ensure timely, accurate revisions and resubmissions.
- Monitor permit fees at a high level and request clarification when charges appear inconsistent or unreasonable.
- Ensure vendors submit accurate permit applications and meet requirements set by permitting authorities.
- Track vendor responsiveness and enforce expectations set by build managers.
- Provide feedback and drive corrective actions when performance gaps arise.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with municipalities, utilities, pole owners, or permitting authorities.
- Strong understanding of permitting processes, construction workflows, or telecom / fiber deployment.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills across internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to coordinate activities, track progress, and follow through on issues to resolution.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify potential barriers early and proactively address them.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple permits and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to interpret permit documents, application requirements, and fee structures at a high level.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with build teams and vendors.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Teams) and ability to use project tracking tools.
Qualifications
WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:
- 2–5 years of telecom, construction, engineering, permitting, or project coordination experience.
- Knowledge of fiber network builds, aerial/underground construction, and buried service wire processes.
- Experience managing vendors or holding partners accountable to deadlines and quality expectations.
- Background in government relations, right‑of‑way permitting, or utility coordination.
- Familiarity with IQGeo, GIS systems, permit portals, or utility application systems.
