Job Description

An Aluminum Die Casting Expert is a key function in our Purchasing Supplier Quality sector and is responsible to support new and existing Bosch Mobility casting projects.  Casting expert is an integral part of diverse teams to procure High-pressure diecasting components which supports Bosch Mobility in Electrification and other mobility divisions. Objective is for the Casting expert to identify and develop new suppliers, while supporting the engineering design concepts for manufacturability, achieve cost effective processes, and optimize suppliers’ performance all in support of company’s goals.  

  • Casting Expert works independently with different functions within Bosch and Bosch supplier base. Applies expertise in areas such as:  Design for Manufacturing, Tool Concept, Manufacturing concept such as: Casting, machining, washing, joining/assembly, & Quality.

Main activities:

  • Support various development phases of Mobility program projects.
  • In development Phase you are supporting Engineering in design, Specification, and general manufacturability.
  • During Supplier selection phase you will actively participation in tool concept review and process definition (Die casting machining, Trimming, Tumbling/shot blasting, machining, Cleaning, assembly/joining).
  • You will be responsible for technical alignment between Supplier and Robert Bosch.
  • Lead problem-solving activities for complex challenges in new launches and series production.
  • Together with Project Team and Supplier, you will solve technical issues for SOP through Ramp-up (Launching)
  • In cooperation with Supplier and you will later analyze technical issues to optimize quality & reduce cost (Series production)
  • Support execution of Preventive Quality and Release according to Bosch Automotive Process Landscape processes. 
  • Travel Expectation: Ability to travel 40-50% of the time, Domestic and Internationally

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials science, or metallurgy with 7+ years of Metal Casting industry experience in High-Pressure Diecasting (HPDC) process in one or more of the following aspects or a High School Diploma / GED with 10+ years of Metal Casting industry experience in High-Pressure Diecasting (HPDC) process in one or more of the following aspects:
    •  experience in casting process development and process optimization.
    • experience in casting related processes (e.g., machining, tumbling, trimming, blasting, heat treatment, Metal Melting and Handling).
    • experience in Casting Tool Design, Construction and Maintenance.
  • 5+ years of experience of HPDC regarding casting tooling concept/design. Including, working knowledge of Flow simulation (i.e. Magma, etc.).
  • 3+ years of leading or participating in multiple projects.
  • 3+ years of working with external suppliers / vendors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must work well with diverse groups of associates and function independent of direct supervision.
  • Advanced communication skills, leadership, and project management skills as to achieve:
    • Teamwork with the development department, you will optimize the design and specifications with regard to requirements of the foundry technology.
    • Teamwork with the project team and supplier, you will solve technical challenges before SOP and during the start-up phase of the project.
    • Teamwork with our suppliers, you will analyze technical correlations and optimize processes with regard to quality and costs.
  • Intermediate experience with structured problem solving (Shainin Red X, Kepner-Tregoe, 6-Sigma, etc.…).
  • Shop Floor management know-how.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office and other applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach others.
  • English required; other languages are a plus. i.e., Spanish, German.
