Job Description

The successful applicant will be an experienced technical generalist familiar with a wide assortment of leading information technologies. Looking for a hands-on senior database architect able to design & build complex knowledge base systems across an enterprise. Experience should include the following:

• Candidates must possess a strong understanding of semantic knowledge base modeling techniques including knowledge store technologies; RDF/OWL based Ontology modeling, SPARQL query engines, & conceptual data modeling concepts.

• Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of advanced database concepts including data modeling, SQL programming skills, data access & administration, security, performance, scalability, web services, e-commerce & business systems, data warehouse, operational data stores, data marts, & business intelligence.

• Candidates must also fully understand software development life cycle principles, practice, & disciplines.

• Candidates should also have strong knowledge of ETL concepts, data integration, big data, ESB systems, & data migration.

• Candidates should possess strong leadership skills able to work with end-users, IT members, & non-database SW engineers including the ability to gather & document user requirements, systematic troubleshooting, & providing well defined SOA data guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for implementing the architecture and design of knowledge database systems and applications

• The primary role for this position is

• Defining the development tasks and estimates for completion

• Developing the implementation code and knowledge base

• Working with the testing team to validate the implementation

• Participating in the product team scrums

• Working independently with limited supervision and with other department personnel



Qualifications

• B.S. in Computer Science or combination of relevant education and experience

• 10+ years working in a database environment

• Practical experience with RDF/OWL standards & schema modeling, Knowledge Base technologies like AllegroGraph, & ontology tools like Protégé or TopBraid

• Conceptual Data Modeling; Solid UML 

• Extensive Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server experience

• SQL development, optimization, performance tuning

• Windows & Unix/Linux experience

• Strong communication, presentation, & inter-personal skills

• Self-starter, results-oriented, & delivery-focused

• Desirable:

• Hadoop, InfoBright, Vertica, MongoDB, SOLR

• Able to mentor junior database developers

• Able to clearly distinguish & articulate between summary & detail information

• Some project management, Agile/Scrum skills

• Must have exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a high attention to detail
