The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Springhill Engineering team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as an Electrical Engineering Team Leader. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

In this role, you will support and lead a team of aspiring engineers by providing ongoing electrical design and technical expertise on equipment procurement and development while overseeing engineering activities and projects. You will focus on providing innovative & modern automated solutions, reducing costs and energy consumption, whilst working on new and existing equipment and pursuing business improvement activities. Working in a supportive environment, you’ll contribute to the safety of our people, the quality of our product and the reliability of our equipment.

What Will You Do?

You’ll motivate and develop a diverse team of electrical engineers whilst ensuring target project deliverables are achieved safely within the agreed time, budget, and levels of quality. You will:

  • oversee and provide expertise on engineering technical design, project engineering, and project management
  • manage and lead the development of an aspiring electrical and automation engineering team
  • provide engineering support to maintenance, operations, and other engineering disciplines, to deliver solutions that maintain and sustain a safe and reliable plant
  • supervise the design development process and ensure design solutions comply with codes, standards and statutory requirements
  • lead and implement capital projects
  • ensure customer expectations are achieved by liaising with external suppliers and industry experts on technical issues and collaborating with technical teams and product owners on new and innovative solutions

More About You

Along with your technical and leadership skills, you will have experience in applying your analytical skills to address process performance. You will also bring:

  • a tertiary degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or Automation or similar
  • a commitment to the safety and well-being of yourself and others
  • experience working in a similar heavy industry – manufacturing, operational, process, or technical environment
  • developed communication and influencing skills - building constructive and effective relationships
  • the ability to prioritise work and troubleshoot and resolve problems effectively and efficiently with a hands-on approach 
  • a proactive approach to continuously improve performance, deliverables, and work efficiencies
