  • Full-time

Job Description

At BlueScope, we create and inspire smart solutions in steel, strengthening our communities and helping build a better future. Our steel has shaped everything from hospitals and schools, bridges and stadiums to fences and homes – influencing the way we live and work, now and in the future.

The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Australian Steel Products business as a Legal Counsel – Competition & Compliance. In this newly created role, you will work for an iconic ASX-listed global organisation and join an experienced and collaborative in-house legal team – who will support your ongoing development.

This is a rare in-house Competition & Compliance role where you’ll work in a diverse business and enjoy variety within the work you do.

You’ll predominantly focus on all things compliance such as competition and consumer law, anti-bribery and corruption, privacy, sanctions and conflicts. You will have the opportunity to strengthen the breadth of your knowledge and experience by undertaking commercial practice work.

Receive a competitive salary, opportunity for 14% superannuation, participation in our performance incentive program, free onsite parking and ongoing flexibility to work from the office and home under our B-flex program.

What Will You Do?

As a valued member of the BlueScope legal team you will work closely with the Senior Legal Counsel – Competition & Compliance to:

  • help shape the ethics and compliance function - develop and implement policies, procedures and initiatives
  • engage with the business to ensure legal matters are raised and considered early – assisting managers to make well-informed decisions based on legal, ethical and commercial considerations
  • support investigations, customer claims and third-party claims – engaging external counsel or service providers
  • educate managers and their teams to implement legal and regulatory advice – developing tools and processes to embed practices in their business unit
  • provide training and support to senior leaders, managers and key internal stakeholders on legal and compliance matters including changes to the law

More About You

As a lawyer who is qualified and licensed to practice in Australia and has strong ethics, you will bring:

  • minimum 3 years PQE within a law firm or in-house legal team within a large organisation
  • good legal practice experience advising corporate clients on competition, compliance or regulatory matters within an industry
  • ability to draft, negotiate and influence contractual outcomes between parties
  • capability to manage matters autonomously and seek guidance from senior team members where appropriate
  • proven experience in engaging with and managing your client base directly
