The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Air Quality and Analytical Chemistry team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Chemistry Analyst. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

The Air Quality and Analytical Chemistry team are responsible for all areas of environmental sample testing management at the Port Kembla manufacturing facility. In this essential role you will be responsible for the collection, preparation and testing of process control samples. Working in a collaborative team environment, you will contribute to the delivery of excellent customer service by completing analyses, providing high quality samples, results and resolving instrumental issues.

This opportunity is a full-time, 9-month Fixed Term contract.

What Will You Do?

You will actively participate in providing continuous improvement and outstanding services within the Laboratory’s Air Quality and Analytical Chemistry team. You will be responsible for:  

  • ensure sampling is of high quality to ensure accuracy of results
  • conduct routine inspections and maintenance on equipment required for sampling, sample preparation and analysis and take any necessary corrective actions
  • prepare solutions and standards required for both sampling and chemical analysis
  • proactively identify opportunities to improve and streamline our procedures or testing

More About You

With your analytical and high attention to detail, you will be comfortable working outdoors and at heights. You will bring:

  • qualifications in Science, Chemistry, Environmental or related discipline
  • a demonstrated proficiency in the use of data reviewing software and equipment 
  • a sense of urgency when prioritising tasks to meet production requirements
  • a high level of attention to detail
