Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a building product and application professional looking for a new challenge.  You will provide technical advice to our business and our customers about the wide range of building products manufactured from BlueScope ingredient steel, such as roofing, framing and wall cladding. You will value add, through facilitating the evaluation, development and effective delivery of new building products, applications and systems to achieve business growth and profitability.

Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Identify issues and opportunities, develop solutions, and lead the delivery and implementation of a range of building products and systems that utilise BlueScope ingredient steel, including careful consideration of the supply chains and installation trades involved;
  • Understand the regulatory standards, codes and bodies in operation in the Australian construction industry and integrate this awareness into the continued technical support of current products, and development of new building products and systems;
  • Collaborate with BlueScope’s customer and market-facing functions to provide support for our customers and products through problem identification, resolution, efficiency improvements or insights into new product development opportunities;
  • Monitor steel intensive product application technologies globally and identify strategic opportunities for the domestic market; and
  • Collaborate and support BlueScope’s Product Innovation efforts in building product and built environment projects by developing solution concepts, providing prototyping capability and providing expert advice in the fields of construction techniques, trade skills and building performance.

Who are we looking for?

Key to this role is your sound knowledge and experience in the wide range of building products made from BlueScope’s ingredient steel, the building systems they find use in, the trades and supply chains involved in making and installing these products, and the performance requirements expected of the buildings.  You will have the following:

  • Degree qualifications in Engineering, Science or Design;
  • Experience in either the manufacturing processes related to forming of steel building components or construction and installation practices and the performance requirements demanded from the overall building systems;
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt your communication style to suit audiences with a variety of technical understanding;
  • Sound technical, customer relations and commercial communication skills.

Familiarity with the National Construction Code would be looked upon favourably, as would skills in computer aided design/drafting and in building physics/science.
