Job Description

The Manufacturing business located in Port Kembla has an opportunity for several energetic, highly motivated, results-oriented electrical engineering students to join our team. With a combination of part-time study and part-time work, you will be provided one day per week to attend classes. You will be available to commence with BlueScope in January 2020.

You will rotate through various departments so that you gain a good appreciation of the steel-making process from smelting the ore, conversion to liquid iron and steel and then forming the raw steel into a finished product fit for use across Australia.

Electrical and automation technologies play a critical role in the manufacture of steel products. During your cadetship, you will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the different production processes and the electrical and automation technologies that are applied to all parts of the plant. Your initial development will include practical, hands-on experience under the direction of experienced, professional engineers. Later, you will work in multidisciplinary teams in roles including design and specification, construction and commissioning and process support and improvement. This experience will help develop your technical knowledge, planning and management skills to become a professional electrical and automation engineer.

An excellent communicator and team player, you will have strong organisation skills and a drive for results. You will show great agility to move between university and your varied work tasks. You will see the value in gaining practical, hands-on experience in the workplace whilst undertaking your theoretical training.

Qualifications Required

You should be a current second-year university student at UOW in Electrical Engineering (current first-year students may be considered).
