Who are we looking for?

  • You will currently be in Year 12 and be eligible to study Materials Engineering at UOW in 2020; or
  • You will currently be in your first or second year of study in Materials Engineering at UOW.

What is the role?

The Manufacturing business located in Port Kembla has an opportunity for several energetic, highly motivated, results-oriented materials engineering students to join our team. With a combination of part-time study and part-time work, you will be provided one day per week to attend classes. You will be available to commence with BlueScope in January 2020.

You will rotate through various departments so that you gain a good appreciation of the steel making process from smelting the ore, conversion to liquid iron and steel and then forming the raw steel into a finished product fit for use across Australia.

Materials engineering provides a link between science and the other branches of engineering. It is the study of the relationship between the structure and properties of materials and their economic application.

What will you do?

As our Materials Cadet, you will be expected to apply scientific principles to solve a range of technological problems. In order to solve these problems, you will be encouraged to develop a better understanding of the principles of physics, chemistry and mathematics. You will also assist in the design and control of the processes for producing, shaping, treating and testing materials.

An excellent communicator and team player, you will have strong organisational skills and a drive for results. You will show great agility in moving between university and your varied work tasks. You will see the value in gaining practical, hands-on experience in the workplace whilst undertaking your theoretical training.

What are the benefits?

This position is an opportunity to put your skills on display and make your mark in an iconic Australian business. You will have:

  • access to training, development and further career opportunities;
