We're looking for a passionate and talented marketer to join the Penguin Michael Joseph team as Senior Marketing Manager. You’ll lead ambitious marketing campaigns primarily across our non-fiction list, and will also work on fiction titles, bringing creativity, strategic thinking and commercial expertise to campaigns for authors ranging from  Dr Julie Smith and Owen O'Kane to Dame Judi Dench.

Penguin Michael Joseph publishes some of the world’s most popular and commercially successful authors and brands, including Jamie Oliver, Marian Keyes, Dr Julie Smith, Claire Douglas, SenLin Yu and Dawn French. We specialise in women’s fiction, crime and thriller, fantasy, romance, cookery, memoir and lifestyle books. Many of our authors are now, or soon will be, household names here in the UK and around the world.  

We seek out the very best authors in their field and bring their books to the widest possible audience. We take an author’s vision and turn it into a beautiful book people can’t help but talk about.

The role 

 

As Senior Marketing Manager you'll take ownership of high-profile campaigns from acquisition through to publication and beyond, working with some of the UK's biggest authors and collaborating closely with editors, publishers, agents and colleagues across the business. As a senior voice within the team, you'll help shape publishing strategy, influence campaign direction and identify opportunities to grow audiences and maximise sales. 

We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is confident managing senior stakeholder relationships and leading campaigns independently. 

 

Key responsibilities: 

  

  • Lead the planning and delivery of integrated marketing campaigns across frontlist and bestselling backlist titles. 

  • Develop creative, audience-first marketing strategies informed by consumer insight, market trends and campaign performance. 

  • Manage marketing budgets, ensuring campaigns deliver against commercial objectives. 

  • Build strong relationships with authors, agents, publishers and external partners, acting as a trusted marketing lead. 

  • Identify partnership, influencer and brand opportunities that maximise campaign reach. 

  • Champion titles across the business, working collaboratively with Editorial, Publicity, Sales and Design. 

  

What you’ll bring 

   

Essential criteria: 

  

  • Significant proven experience leading large-scale marketing campaigns within book publishing or closely related creative industries. 

  • Experience working with high-profile authors, talent or brands, and building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders. 

  • Experience managing marketing budgets and delivering commercially successful campaigns. 

  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills. 

  • Strong commercial awareness and an audience-first approach to marketing. 

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

  • A collaborative approach, with the confidence to influence across teams. 

  

Preferred criteria: 

  

  • Experience working across both non-fiction and fiction titles

Salary 

   

c.£45,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
