Job Description

Job Summary:

As the Technical Manager for Coil Coatings and Industrial Coatings, you will play a critical role in overseeing and managing technical aspects related to the development, production, and quality control of coatings used in various industrial applications, with a focus on coil coatings. You will lead a team of technical professionals, ensuring the successful execution of projects, product development, and adherence to quality standards. This position requires a deep understanding of coatings technology, project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Maintain, drive, supervise and implement robust technical standards, systems, and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical expertise in coil coatings and industrial coatings, including formulation, testing, performance and application processes.
  • Lead research and development efforts to improve coating performance, durability, and environmental sustainability.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements.

Team Management:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of technical professionals, including chemists, engineers, and technicians.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.

Product Development:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop new coatings products tailored to specific customer requirements.
  • Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to commercialization.
  • To analyse market trends and requirements to design products with long term view and sustainability objective.

Quality Control:

  • Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure coatings meet industry standards and customer expectations.
  • Investigate and address any quality-related issues, providing solutions and improvements as needed.

Project Management:

  • Plan and execute technical projects related to coatings development, process optimization, and quality improvement.
  • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to achieve project goals.

Customer Support:

  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to provide technical support to customers, addressing their inquiries and resolving issues.
  • Develop effective relationship with customers to differentiate Beckers offering
  • Conduct product presentations and technical training for customers and internal teams.
  • To create awareness and promote existing product range along with Sales and marketing department.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that coatings products comply with local and international regulatory standards and environmental regulations.
  • Provide direction and support to ensure compliance with relevant legislative and compliance standards.
  • Ensuring the integration of QMS requirements into the organization’s business process
  • To recognize health and safety is a responsibility of every employee, to take reasonable care of oneself and others and to comply with Beckers’ Environmental Health and Safety policy and any Beckers procedures / rules that apply to the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., Master's) preferred
  • Minimum 15- years of experience in the industrial or coil coating industry, with a proven track record of technical leadership
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial and coil coating technologies, processes, and applications
  • Experience in plastic coatings, water based, UV technologies is desired.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing technical teams
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency in quality control and assurance methodologies
  • Experience in budgeting and resource allocation for technical operations
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to coating processes
  • Proven track record of driving innovation and process improvements in coating technologies
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within Malaysia and potentially internationally
