Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Construction Safety Officer (CSO) to join our infrastructure team, based out of Toronto, ON. The Construction Safety Officer will support active construction works on the Ontario Line Subway project in Toronto.     

This is a site-based role within a complex, multi-contractor heavy civil and transit environment, supporting safe execution across major infrastructure packages. You will work closely with contractors and integrated project teams to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and support safe delivery across active construction areas.

Bantrel Infrastructure, as Delivery Partner alongside Bechtel and Metrolinx, is supporting the Ontario Line Subway project—one of the largest and most complex transit infrastructure programs in Canada.

The program includes 15 stations, over 15 km of new alignment, and multiple major construction packages across tunnelling, elevated guideway, and civil works, delivered by leading contractors within an integrated project team environment.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Support Project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures and to implement effectively for the safe execution of the works
  • Perform formal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with the relevant OHS legislation, standards and contract requirements
  • Provide day to day oversight for on-site construction work conducted by contractors to assess contractor compliance against the relevant OHSA legislation and contract requirements, support with the identification of hazards and implementation of risk mitigation controls
  • Review site activities and provide support for the protection of workers as well as public, infrastructure and operations
  • Engage, coordinate and work with Integrated Project Team and internal/external stakeholders to provide consistent and continuous support
  • In collaboration with the Integrated Project team, review, analyze and outline construction activities and work areas to ensure safe and efficient delivery
  • Participate and/or support others with incident investigations, including follow up actions to ensure implementation of identified corrective actions
  • Assist the Safety Director and Safety team with other tasks as required

Qualifications

  • ​​​​​​​5–7+ years of on-site construction safety experience in heavy civil, infrastructure, or major projects
  • Experience supporting heavy civil, transportation, rail, or major infrastructure construction projects
  • Tunnel and/or bridge experience an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario OHSA Act and Regulations with an enhanced level of knowledge and experience in construction requirements
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience managing multiple priorities within fast-paced construction environments
  • Ability to establish collaborative and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Base Annual Salary: $100,000 to $125,000 CAD per year (Bantrel provides a competitive compensation package that reflects the skills, qualifications, and experience relevant to the role. The figures shared represent base salary only and do not include other elements of the Total Rewards offering. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and alignment with the role requirements.)
