Job Description
The Dragline Mining Engineer will provide dedicated technical support to dragline operations, playing a key role in short‑term planning, design and execution. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this position focuses on enabling safe, efficient and reliable dragline performance while supporting broader site production objectives.
You will contribute to front‑end daily planning and short‑term schedules (up to approximately six months), ensuring dragline activities are well integrated with supporting operations at Capcoal Surface Operations. This role offers the opportunity to be closely involved in mine plan development and execution during a period of transition and future growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining short‑term dragline schedules and designs
- Supporting daily production planning and dragline sequencing
- Providing technical advice to dragline operations to support safe and efficient execution
- Assisting with spoil placement strategies, strip sequencing and design optimisation
- Working closely with operations and planning teams to ensure alignment between plans and execution
- Contributing to mine plans that support future growth and production targets
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within dragline operations
- Maintaining compliance with safety, environmental and operational standards
This role is well suited to an engineer looking to build or further develop dragline experience in a supportive technical services environment.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- A minimum of a couple of years’ experience in a mining engineering role
- Dragline experience or strong exposure to large‑scale open‑cut operations (preferred)
- Experience in short‑term mine planning, scheduling or design
- Familiarity with dragline planning and/or mining design software
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with operational teams
- A practical, execution‑focused approach to engineering
- A strong commitment to safety, compliance and continuous improvement
