The purpose of this role is to coordinate the planning for and reporting of the integrated performance of the LoW4 value chain for Sishen Mine, including the core production and service strategies required to deliver the plan.

Job Description

As Section Manager Integrated Planning & Reporting your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment

  • Consistently apply Safety and Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  • Lead safety initiatives (e.g. VFLs) as required.

Integrated Planning:

  • Lead the thinking on current and future asset configurations, mining methods, revenue streams and exploitation strategies.
  • Demonstrate the available mineral resources extracted through an action-based integrated plan within constraints to maximise value.
  • Evaluate the impact of plan changes on asset performance, including timing, spending and sequence of events, for the business planning timeframe.
  • Confirm integration of Group functional initiatives into the 5-year business plan to support the delivery of the agreed business expectations.
  • Develops a detailed business plan for the work approved during the Portfolio phase.
  • Ensure delivery of outstanding sustainable business results across all seven pillars of value without compromise.
  • Assist with the coordination of the Operational Planning cycle:
    • Refine, calibrate, and deploy the Business Structure Performance (BSP) model.
    • Provide insights, input, and guidance to the Technical Manager.
  • Ensure consistent process execution for production strategy development:
    • Ensure departmental consolidation of specific inputs for production strategies.
    • Review production strategy focus areas.
    • Support the Manager Technical in deciding on high-level production strategy work packages.
  • Consolidate inputs from the production and service strategies and provide input into the Life of Asset Plan and Resource Development Plan.
  • Assess Operating Master Schedules for Sishen mine:
    • Validate work packages in OMS.
    • Align on optimised OMS with discipline managers.
    • Review and validate OMS.
    • Run simulations to determine the most effective, efficient, and sustainable options.
  • Assess the setting of the Expenditure schedule (alongside the Commercial Manager) for Sishen Mine:
    • Ensure cost structures are correctly incorporated.
    • Review expenditure schedule.
  • Refine the plan with the Integrated Sales and Operations Planning (ISOP) Marketing team to deliver market requirements and maximise value.

Reporting:

  • Lead site-wide adoption of holistic measures for effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of the site (including regular self-assurance process).
  • Ensure updated metrics to enable performance reviews and drive data-centred decision-making:
    • Lead configuration workshops to define Key Performance Indicators.
    • Ensure KPIs exist and are owned by each discipline.
    • Ensure ongoing tracking of KPIs and intervention is occurring as required.
  • Support with the implementation of sound data analytics and governance process on-site, including:
    • Collaborating with data specialists, functional business experts, project managers and product experts to ensure smooth collation, accurate reporting, and easy access to data.
    • Designing and maintaining data systems.
    • Mining data from primary and secondary sources and presenting it in a user-friendly format.
  • Support the implementation of the Anglo American Data Policy and maintenance of the Policy Implementation:
    • Drive good data management practice on site, including management of data cataloguing, data quality and data governance tools.
    • Align data forums (steward consultation to governance committees).
    • Business representative for Data Policy Compliance audits.
  • Ensure digital literacy improves on-site (in line with the Anglo Digital Literacy drive).
  • Conduct and oversee data science experiments in co-operation with business analysts.
  • Preparing reports for leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data.
  • Assist with report automation and reporting requirements from the business.

Sustainability and Social:

  • Manage sustainability activities, integrate Sustainable Mining Plan commitments into the discipline's 5-year plan, ensure sufficient resources, support site-specific integration, comply with environmental and social requirements, identify risks, translate opportunities, and foster awareness of sustainability within the discipline for effective decision-making.

This role is in Technical & Integrated Planning (T&IP) department on a Band 6 (D-Upper) level reporting to the Manager, Technical & Integrated Planning.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • B. Tech or Bachelor’s degree (e.g. Mining, Processing, Geoscience, Industrial, etc.) or equivalent on an NQF7 level
  • Postgraduate qualification in Business or Engineering Management (NQF8) is preferred
  • SA Drivers Licence Code B

Technical Knowledge

  • Demonstrated 6-8 years of relevant experience in integrated planning and reporting within the mining industry/ BI.
  • Profound understanding of the Anglo American Operating model, particularly the Operational Planning and Feedback process.
  • Advanced expertise in mining operations, preferably in open-pit mining, processing, or engineering.
  • Extensive understanding of key value drivers across the mining value chain and their interconnectedness.
  • Proficiency in advanced Computer Literacy, including MS Office, Projects, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the mining industry and relevant legislation, particularly the Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • Strong Mathematical and Statistical skills for data gathering, measurement, organisation, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with basic financial metrics, cost and value management, and budgeting tools.
  • Proven experience in identifying and implementing business improvement opportunities and projects within mining operations. • Practical experience in applying fundamental Project management principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategy implementation and business planning within the mining industry.
  • Sound knowledge of new technologies and their impact on operational activities within mining.
  • Solid understanding of change management methodologies and good written and verbal communication skills.
