Our 24/7 emergency and critical care team serves small animal patients across Ventura and surrounding counties, accepting walk-ins and referrals. We have a large, fully equipped, multi-unit ICU that includes an isolation ward and quiet rooms. Our emergency department team is fortunate to have access to our Internal Medicine department six days a week, for consultation and supportive services.

Job Description

Housekeeping is a primary hospital position responsible for keeping the facility clean, organized and safe. It is the cleaning staff’s responsibility to make sure the facility is clean and stocked. They must also be able to make decisions and work independently so must use good judgment in providing safe and clean environment for patient and client care. Multi-tasking and accepting constructive criticism is important for mastery of job tasks. Punctuality is a must. 

Jobs duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning the hospital including (but not limited to): laundry, floors, taking out the trash and recycling, cleaning reception, bathrooms, treatment areas, surgery suite, exam rooms, kennels, restrooms and kitchen/break room.
  • Washing, drying, and folding hospital linens and pet bedding to maintain a steady supply.
  • Assist in janitorial supply stocking and informing inventory management personnel if supplies need to be ordered.
  • Appropriate disinfection protocol used when cleaning various areas of the hospital.
  • Maintaining facility cleanliness, including mopping, dusting, and vacuuming, and deep cleaning as indicated and/or on a routine basis.
  • Following strict infection control and safety guidelines, including using proper PPE, laundering instructions, cross-contamination mitigation efforts. 
  • Emptying trash and cleaning up biohazardous waste, including urine, feces, and vomit in both indoor and outdoor areas.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. 
  • Compassionate, calm team player with a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to safely lift 40 pounds unassisted or up to 150 pounds with 3-person assist. 
  • Good physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks that include bending, crouching, squatting, twisting, reaching, sitting/kneeling, and other physical demands.
  • Basic reading, math, and writing skills. 
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working in a veterinary environment—must not be squeamish!
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and manage multiple priorities effectively.
