Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Electrical Engineer with a strong background in renewable energy systems, solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and medium voltage (MV) grid connections to join our growing energy engineering team.
The ideal candidate brings proven expertise in solar power system design, MV/HV network integration and grid compliance, with a demonstrated ability to lead design teams, interface with clients and contractors, and ensure successful project delivery. Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVcase and advanced electrical design tools is a strong advantage.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior professional who is well versed in multidisciplinary renewable projects and is passionate about delivering efficient, reliable and sustainable electrical engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership & Renewable Electrical Design
- Lead the electrical design of utility-scale solar PV, BESS and hybrid renewable systems, including MV collection networks and grid connections up to 66 kV.
- Develop and oversee approve the design basis, single-line diagrams (LV DC, LV AC, MV, HV), general arrangement and PV layouts, cable routing, trench and crossing sections, cable schedules, earthing and lightning protection layouts, and substation and switchyard designs.
- Ensure designs comply with IEC, IEEE, ENA, DNO/TSO requirements and national grid connection codes.
- Define and implement technical design strategies that meet safety, efficiency and sustainability objectives.
- Check and verify string sizing and DC/AC ratio, LV and MV cable sizing (including derating, voltage drop, losses and short-circuit withstand), earthing system design, and inverter and transformer sizing, in line with Company quality management procedures.
2. Solar & Battery Systems Expertise
- Design and integrate solar PV arrays, inverters, transformers, RMUs and BESS into existing grid networks.
- Carry out energy yield and loss studies, layout optimization and equipment selection studies using simulation tools such as PVsyst and PVcase.
- Development of protection and grounding/earthing systems and arc flash assessments to support safe operation and electrical safety compliance.
- Prepare technical input on renewable connection strategies, grid code compliance and interconnection requirements.
- Advise clients on renewable connection strategies, grid code compliance and interconnection requirements.
3. Multidisciplinary Coordination & Digital Delivery
- Lead coordination meetings, ensure clash-free models, and promote integration with civil and structural teams.
- Drive digital workflows using CDE platforms (BIM 360, ACC, Aconex) and model-based collaboration for efficient project delivery.
- Lead safety-in-design reviews and design risk assessments for the electrical scope.
4. Project & Client Management
- Act as the technical lead for electrical engineering scopes on large renewable projects.
- Coordinate with developers, EPC contractors, utilities and independent engineers during project development and execution.
- Support project managers in budgeting, scheduling, risk assessment and design deliverable management.
- Prepare technical documentation and feasibility reports, and participate in client design reviews.
- Contribute to proposals, including technical approach, scope definition and effort estimates.
5. Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning stages.
- Review contractor documentation, respond to RFIs, and verify electrical installations and testing procedures.
6. Mentoring & Team Development
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and engineers to enhance their knowledge of renewable design and installation practices.
- Share lessons learned and contribute to improving design standards, templates and tools.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related field).
- 8+ years of experience in electrical design for renewable energy or utility-scale power projects.
- Proven track record in solar PV, MV distribution, substations and grid connection design.
- Hands-on understanding of utility standards, protection schemes, grounding/earthing and electrical safety regulations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, electrical design tools and BIM workflows.
- Fluent English, with strong technical writing skills.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary coordination.
Preferred:
- Advanced experience with PVcase, PVsyst, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar analysis tools.
- Field experience in solar/BESS installation, commissioning or operations.
- Exposure to energy storage systems, hybrid microgrids and HV grid interconnections.
- Familiarity with international renewable standards and grid codes (IEC, ENA G99/G100, EU Network Code RfG) and interconnection processes.
- Professional registration (e.g., ANRE authorization in Romania, CEng/IET or equivalent).
Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and drive a culture of technical excellence.
