Job Description

Start here. Grow here.

Are you ready to join a team of talented ecologists and shape the future of the environment?

We are looking for an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) lead to develop and lead our ECoW offering across Scotland. Our ecology team is working on a mix of infrastructure projects in the energy, water, renewables, defence and transport sectors, alongside managing smaller local projects.  We are looking to further develop and expand our client offering to provide greater support during the post-consent and construction phases.

In this role, you will have the autonomy to develop and grow our ECoW offering across Scotland with an initial focus on providing client-side ECoW services, including ecological auditing, compliance monitoring and assurance. You will play a key role in leading the service, building client relationships, and establishing the technical capability and resources required to support its growth.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Review and assess the existing ECoW workstream, identifying opportunities for growth and developing and implementing a clear delivery strategy.
  • Develop and manage strong client and subcontractor relationships, identifying opportunities to expand the ECoW offering and build a sustainable project pipeline.
  • Take ownership of the growth and development of the Scotland ECoW workstream, working with the Regional Ecology Lead.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider UK Nature team to input into an ECoW technical group, building in-house capability through recruitment, training, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Lead the preparation of bids, tenders and proposals.
  • Provide technical and operational leadership for ECoW delivery, including methodologies, reporting, quality assurance and consistent delivery standards.
  • Shape and develop the role of ECoW within Scotlands wider Nature and Environment offering, identifying opportunities for collaboration and integrated environmental services.
  • Provide technical and strategic input to key projects and clients, including site visits where appropriate.

Monitor the performance and growth of the ECoW workstream, supporting resource planning, forecasting and the development of the service line. If you're passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, AECOM welcomes you. Join our team, where we don't just construct infrastructure but also uplift communities and enhance lives. Why not give our AECOM page on LinkedIn a follow to stay updated on the impactful projects we're working on and see firsthand the difference we're making in the industry!

 Come grow with us.

Become part of our dynamic Nature business, which boasts around 260 professional experts including national and global leaders located across the UK&I, from species licence holders to experts in impact assessment, habitat creation, ecosystem restoration, enhancement, and management. Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Significant experience in ECoW, environmental consultancy, construction environmental management or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation, planning and permitting requirements, environmental management principles and construction environmental compliance.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing environmental oversight on complex projects.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, designers, environmental consultants, regulators and wider project teams.
  • Proven experience of leading people, projects or technical workstreams, with the ability to provide direction, support and technical assurance.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, such as IEMA or CIEEM, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A proactive approach to Health and Safety.
