Job Description
AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer – Water, Hydraulics and Drainage to join our Enterprise Capabilities Design Center in Bogotá D.C. The selected candidate will support the development, calibration, and application of 1D/2D hydraulic models for complex wastewater, stormwater, and urban drainage systems across a diverse range of infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in InfoWorks ICM, hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, system performance assessments, flood mitigation, and CSO spill reduction, while translating modelling outputs into practical engineering solutions and design recommendations. This role requires strong technical expertise, quality assurance, multidisciplinary coordination, and effective collaboration with project teams and Lead Offices across different regions to deliver high-quality and sustainable water infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, build, and maintain 1D/2D InfoWorks ICM models for wastewater, stormwater, and urban drainage networks, including representation of controls, storage, pump stations, and CSO structures.
- Execute model development, calibration, and verification using flow/rainfall monitoring, SCADA, and asset data; perform macro/micro calibration and document uncertainty/assumptions.
- Assess and optimize system performance for CSOs, pumping stations, wastewater treatment facility interfaces, flood mitigation schemes, and CSO spill reduction programs.
- Conduct hydraulic capacity assessments, options appraisals, and scenario analyses (e.g., growth, climate change allowances, resilience, levels of service).
- Develop modelling plans, test plans, and QA/QC checklists; ensure traceable, auditable model build and version control.
- Translate model outputs into practical engineering recommendations, conceptual solutions, and inputs to preliminary/detailed design.
- Prepare clear, defensible technical reports, memos, figures, and presentations in English and Spanish for clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
- Interface with GIS, survey, asset management, and field teams to integrate data, validate models, and prioritize investigations.
- Support water infrastructure planning studies (e.g., master plans, CIPs), benefit-cost assessments, and risk-based prioritization.
- Review deliverables for quality and consistency; mentor junior engineers in modelling methods, documentation, and best practices.
- Coordinate across disciplines (treatment, pipeline, structural, electrical/controls) and time zones to deliver integrated solutions.
- Contribute to proposals (scope, approach, level-of-effort) and support client meetings and workshops.
- Deep understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling workflows for collection and drainage systems, including data QA/QC and uncertainty management.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- At least 4 years of professional experience.
- Advanced proficiency in InfoWorks ICM (model build, 1D/2D integration, RTC/controls, calibration/verification).
- Proficiency with complementary tools such as GIS, AutoCAD/Civil 3D (or equivalent), and data handling for model input/output management.
- Hands-on experience in stormwater and wastewater system modelling and analysis.
- Solid knowledge of hydraulic design principles for gravity and pressure sewers, drainage systems, and related infrastructure.
- Strong technical reporting and communication skills with the ability to present findings and lead discussions.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience delivering stormwater and wastewater modelling projects across Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, the Middle East, and ANZ (Australia and New Zealand).
- Background supporting international engineering consulting assignments with multi-agency and regulatory coordination.
- Knowledge of regional standards and design guidelines across multiple geographies (e.g., UK sewerage guidance, US EPA/ASCE practices, Canadian and ANZ standards).
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and conducting technical reviews for modelling and reporting deliverables.
- Professional licensure (e.g., PE, P.Eng., CEng) or active progress toward licensure.
Additional Information
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
- Sponsorship for Colombia work authorization is not available for this position, now or in the future.
