Job Description

About the role

In this role, you will lead the hydraulic design and technical review of stormwater and drainage infrastructure across major projects, with a strong focus on practical, buildable and technically robust outcomes.

Your responsibilities are likely to include:

  • Leading the hydraulic assessment and design of stormwater and drainage infrastructure for major transport, Defence and energy projects
  • Providing technical leadership in the design of pit and pipe drainage networks, open channel systems, culverts, detention and treatment infrastructure, major/minor drainage systems and flood conveyance infrastructure
  • Overseeing hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, including interpretation of results and integration into design outcomes
  • Reviewing and approving technical calculations, design models, drawings, reports and specifications
  • Advising project teams and clients on flood risk, drainage strategy, network performance, design criteria and infrastructure resilience
  • Supporting delivery from planning and concept design through to detailed design and construction support
  • Acting as a senior technical reviewer and mentor to developing engineers across the team
  • Supporting client engagement, work winning and proposal development in the Perth market
  • Contributing to the growth and maturity of the local drainage and water resources capability

About you

We are looking for a highly experienced and credible engineering professional with strong technical depth in stormwater and drainage hydraulics, together with the leadership capability to guide teams and support project delivery.

You will ideally have:

  • 15+ years of relevant post-graduate experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, hydraulic assessment and design of stormwater and drainage networks
  • Strong capability in stormwater network hydraulics, including the performance of both underground and surface drainage systems
  • Experience delivering major infrastructure projects within a consulting or multidisciplinary engineering environment
  • The ability to provide technical leadership, design review and mentoring across a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence in engaging with clients and key stakeholders
  • Sound commercial awareness and the ability to contribute to successful project delivery outcomes

Desirable experience

The following would be viewed favourably:

  • Experience across major road corridors, rail, Defence, aviation, renewables or other major infrastructure sectors
  • Familiarity with relevant design standards, policies and guidance, including ARR 2019 and relevant state or authority drainage criteria
  • Proficiency with relevant software used in drainage and hydraulic design, such as 12d, Drains, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, MUSIC, RORB or similar tools
  • Experience in technical governance, independent design review and project assurance
  • Existing client relationships and market presence within Western Australia
  • Experience supporting the growth of a technical team or discipline capability

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • CPEng / RPEQ or equivalent professional registration highly regarded
