Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineer III to join our growing Transportation team in Cincinnati, Ohio. In this role, you will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects that improve mobility and enhance communities throughout Ohio and the surrounding region. Working alongside experienced transportation professionals, you will support projects from concept development through final design while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, high-quality engineering solutions. This position offers opportunities for technical growth, client interaction, and increased responsibility on a variety of state and local transportation programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare roadway, highway, and transportation engineering designs for municipal, county, and state transportation projects.
- Develop engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and supporting calculations.
- Perform geometric roadway design utilizing industry-standard software including MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
- Coordinate with project managers, technical leads, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
- Assist with design reviews and quality control activities to ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and client requirements.
- Support project development activities including alternatives evaluations, preliminary engineering, and final design.
- Coordinate with utility owners, permitting agencies, and other project stakeholders as needed.
- Assist with preparation of engineering studies, design documentation, and construction support activities.
- Participate in client meetings and collaborate with transportation agencies including the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and local municipalities.
- Continue developing technical expertise while mentoring junior engineering staff as opportunities arise.
This role will provide the opportunity to directly support transformational projects including the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project. This project is one of the largest highway infrastructure projects in the country and entails design and construction of a new bridge crossing of the Ohio River between Cincinnati and Covington Kentucky, along with 8 miles of significant highway improvements. Design is in progress, providing a unique opportunity for multiple career-defining roles on the project. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- BA/BS and 4 years of relevant experience demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- Experience delivering roadway and highway design projects for ODOT or other state transportation agencies.
- Proficiency with MicroStation OpenRoads Designer and related Bentley design software.
- Experience preparing roadway plans, specifications, quantities, and engineering cost estimates.
- Familiarity with AASHTO, ODOT, and local agency design standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with 8+ years of transportation engineering experience supporting roadway and highway design projects.
