Job Description
AECOM's Mid-Atlantic Survey/Geospatial Services team is seeking a detail-oriented TopoDOT Operator to process and analyze aerial, UAS, LiDAR point cloud data using TopoDOT software to work out of the Newark, DE office. The successful candidate will create accurate 3D models, extract survey features, develop CAD deliverables, and ensure compliance with client specifications and industry standards. This role works closely with surveyors, project managers, and engineering teams to support transportation, infrastructure, utility, and mapping projects. This position is ideal for an experienced geospatial professional with expertise in LiDAR data processing and TopoDOT who is passionate about delivering high-quality survey and mapping products for infrastructure and engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Process mobile and terrestrial LiDAR point cloud data using TopoDOT.
- Extract survey features including:
- Pavement edges
- Road markings
- Curbs and gutters
- Utilities
- Signs
- Guardrails
- Bridges
- Drainage structures
- Trees and vegetation
- Generate 2D and 3D CAD deliverables in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Perform quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) on extracted data.
- Register, classify, and manage large point cloud datasets.
- Interpret engineering plans and client specifications.
- Maintain project documentation and production schedules.
- Coordinate with survey crews and project managers to resolve data issues.
- Meet project deadlines while maintaining high accuracy standards.
- Reports to the BIM/CIIM Manager
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, GIS, Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience) plus 6 years of experience processing LiDAR point cloud data or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education (i.e. - Associate's Degree + 8 years of experience or High School Diploma + 10 years of Experience)
- Experience with TopoDOT software
- Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or Bentley OpenRoads
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with mobile mapping systems (Leica, Trimble, RIEGL, or similar)
- Familiarity with GNSS, IMU, and LiDAR calibration workflows
- Knowledge of DOT standards and transportation projects
- Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (preferred but not required)
- Understanding of surveying principles and coordinate systems
- Strong computer and data management skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
