Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Sr. Network Technology & Security Consultant to support the design, implementation, and sustainment of secure enterprise and Operational Technology (OT) network environments. This role combines advanced networking expertise with applied security engineering to deliver resilient, standards-aligned infrastructure solutions for commercial and Federal clients.

The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on experience in routing, switching, secure segmentation, and network security controls, and will be comfortable operating in client-facing consulting engagements. This position requires independent execution, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to translate technical requirements into scalable, secure network architectures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and deploy routed and switched network infrastructures across enterprise and OT environments.
  • Architect and implement secure network segmentation, firewall policies, VPN configurations, and access control strategies.
  • Configure network devices from baseline builds, including VLANs, QoS, STP, routing protocols, and high-availability configurations.
  • Support sales engineering efforts by developing technical solutions and participating in client presentations.
  • Conduct network and security assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and provide documented remediation recommendations.
  • Install and commission physical network infrastructure, including rack-mounted equipment and fiber/copper connectivity.
  • Support implementation of wireless solutions, including enterprise-grade WiFi systems.
  • Develop and maintain detailed network diagrams, configuration documentation, and test plans.
  • Provide in-person and remote troubleshooting and operational support.
  • Travel to client sites within the United States as required (typically 1–2 trips per month).

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in IT or related field + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education or AA/AS (US) + 8 years of related experience or HS/GED + 10 years of related experience and/or education.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience implementing and configuring routed and switched network solutions in enterprise or industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with Layer 2/Layer 3 networking, including VLAN design, routing protocols, QoS, and network segmentation.
  • Experience implementing network security technologies such as firewalls, VPNs, and access control systems.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to independently deploy, troubleshoot, and support network infrastructure.
  • Ability to lift and rack-mount equipment and climb ladders as required for installation activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent in English (read, write, speak).
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions using Cisco routing, switching, and security platforms.
  • Advanced certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, or equivalent industry credentials.
  • Experience with identity and access control platforms (e.g., Cisco ISE) and multi-factor authentication solutions.
  • Familiarity with Passive Optical LAN (POL), GPON, or XGS-PON technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise WiFi deployments, controllers, and RF optimization.
  • Experience with WAN routing, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and high-availability network architectures.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking and OT security principles.
  • Exposure to compliance frameworks such as NIST or ISO 27001.
  • Experience supporting Federal or critical infrastructure projects.
