Job Description

The Role

As the leader of Mövenpick Moroni, Comoros, the General Manager is responsible for the overall strategic, commercial, operational, financial, and people performance of the hotel while ensuring full alignment with Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts' brand standards, corporate policies, and business objectives.

Situated on the shores of the Indian Ocean in the vibrant capital city of Moroni, the hotel is a landmark hospitality destination within the Union of Comoros, an emerging tourism market renowned for its pristine beaches, volcanic landscapes, rich marine biodiversity, and unique blend of African, Arab, and French cultural influences. Comoros offers a rare opportunity to shape the future of hospitality in an authentic and largely undiscovered island destination, making this role both professionally rewarding and highly impactful.

The hotel features 159 guestrooms and suites, complemented by a comprehensive range of leisure, wellness, family, and business facilities, including a swimming pool area, Little Birds Club, Teens Club, Fitness Centre, Spa, Ballroom, Mövenpick Retail Shop, and a diverse collection of food and beverage venues comprising an All-Day Dining Restaurant, Specialty Restaurant, Lobby Bar, Pool Bar, and Beach Bar.

The General Manager will champion operational excellence, commercial performance, guest satisfaction, talent development, and owner relations while cultivating a strong culture of engagement, accountability, innovation, and service excellence across the hotel.

Working closely with Area and Corporate Office specialists, the General Manager will identify opportunities to improve business performance, drive market positioning, strengthen brand reputation, and ensure the successful execution of strategic initiatives. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate a high degree of entrepreneurship, inspiring the leadership team to continuously seek opportunities for growth, innovation, and operational efficiency.

As the primary ambassador for Mövenpick within the local market, the General Manager will maintain strong and productive relationships with owners, government authorities, business partners, local communities, tourism stakeholders, and industry representatives, positioning the hotel as a leading hospitality destination in Comoros.

The General Manager is also responsible for ensuring the hotel attracts, develops, and retains talented individuals at all levels, fostering a high-performance culture and a positive work environment where employees are empowered to excel and deliver exceptional guest experiences.

Key Deliverables and Responsibilities

Commercial

  • Develop, prepare, and execute the annual budget, business plan, forecasts, and strategic objectives in collaboration with Department Heads and Regional Commercial teams.
  • Drive sustainable revenue growth, profitability, market share, and overall commercial success of the hotel.
  • Monitor local, regional, and international market trends, competitor activity, and emerging business opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with key clients, partners, travel trade, government entities, and tourism stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in sales activities, business development initiatives, and strategic networking opportunities.
  • Ensure the consistent and correct application of Mövenpick brand identity across all guest touchpoints.
  • Maximise distribution performance and ensure all online channels, websites, and OTA content remain accurate and up to date.
  • Implement effective reporting and performance management tools to monitor and improve commercial results.
  • Ensure contracts, expenditures, and commercial agreements comply with company policies and governance requirements.
  • Drive innovative revenue management and yield optimisation strategies to maximise hotel performance across all revenue streams, including rooms, food and beverage, events, wellness, and retail operations.

Leadership & People & Culture

  • Provide inspirational leadership to foster a high-performing and engaged team culture.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain talented leaders and team members across all departments.
  • Promote succession planning and actively support management development initiatives.
  • Drive the performance management cycle, ensuring clear objectives, coaching, and accountability at every level.
  • Support learning and development initiatives that enhance skills, capabilities, and career progression opportunities.
  • Ensure all recruitment, employee relations, and HR processes comply with company policies and best practices.
  • Promote diversity, inclusion, employee wellbeing, and a culture of recognition.
  • Foster a caring, respectful, and collaborative workplace that drives engagement and employee satisfaction.
  • Ensure the effective implementation and utilisation of all corporate HR systems and tools.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure exceptional guest experiences through consistent delivery of high-quality products and services.
  • Oversee the entire hotel operation, ensuring all departments operate efficiently and in accordance with brand standards.
  • Protect and enhance the hotel's reputation across all guest feedback platforms and review channels.
  • Lead guest recovery efforts and ensure prompt resolution of complaints and service issues.
  • Maintain full compliance with Mövenpick brand standards, Accor policies, SOPs, and operational procedures.
  • Conduct regular leadership meetings and operational reviews with Department Heads.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Ensure the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, health, safety, security, sustainability, and risk management.
  • Lead major operational projects, renovations, capital expenditure programmes, and refurbishment initiatives.
  • Maintain the hotel's physical assets, facilities, FF&E, and infrastructure to the highest standards.

Financial Management

  • Deliver annual budget objectives and agreed financial targets.
  • Maintain strong cost-control measures across all departments while preserving guest satisfaction and service excellence.
  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly business performance and take corrective actions as required.
  • Demonstrate strong financial acumen with a deep understanding of profit and loss management.
  • Ensure accurate forecasting for Rooms, Food & Beverage, Administration, and other operating departments.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reports and business updates to owners and stakeholders.
  • Develop strategic plans and capital investment proposals that support long-term asset value enhancement and business growth.
  • Safeguard company assets and ensure effective financial governance and compliance.

Owner & Stakeholder Relations

  • Act as the principal liaison between ownership, corporate offices, local authorities, and industry stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with owners and their representatives.
  • Provide transparent communication and regular business updates to stakeholders.
  • Ensure all decisions support the long-term success of the property and align with ownership objectives.
  • Represent the hotel and brand within the local business community and tourism sector.

Community Engagement & Sustainability

  • Champion Mövenpick and Accor sustainability initiatives, including the Shine programme and local CSR activities.
  • Foster meaningful partnerships with local communities, institutions, and organisations.
  • Promote responsible tourism practices that support the social, economic, and environmental wellbeing of Comoros.
  • Position the hotel as a positive contributor to the destination's long-term development and tourism growth.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all local laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and international standards.
  • Maintain adherence to health and safety regulations, fire life and safety requirements, HACCP standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead internal and external audits and ensure timely implementation of any corrective actions.
  • Ensure all corporate policies, OSMs, controls, procedures, and risk management frameworks are effectively implemented.
  • Protect the reputation, integrity, and legal standing of the hotel and the Mövenpick brand.

The General Manager is expected to serve as a visible leader and ambassador for Mövenpick Hotel & Spa Moroni, delivering outstanding business results while creating memorable moments for guests, employees, owners, and the wider community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive leadership experience in hotel operations, including experience as a General Manager or Cluster General Manager within an international hotel brand.
  • Fluency in French and English is required; knowledge of Comorian and/or Arabic is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in remote island, resort, or emerging-market destinations is highly desirable.
  • Experience leading hotel openings, repositionings, renovations, or turnaround projects is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of talent development and localization strategies to support the growth of local Comorian talent.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to local business practices and cultural sensitivities.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a proven track record of driving revenue growth, profitability, and market share.
  • Demonstrated success in leading multi-functional teams and fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and employee engagement.
  • Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, P&L management, and cost optimization.
  • Extensive knowledge of hotel operations, including Rooms, Food & Beverage, Sales & Marketing, Revenue Management, Finance, and People & Culture.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic business plans while delivering operational excellence and exceptional guest experiences.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working with hotel owners, asset managers, and corporate offices in a management or franchise environment is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities with the capacity to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
