Job Description

The Multi-Skilled Carpenter is responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing, and improving all wooden fixtures, fittings, furniture, doors, painting and related structures throughout the hotel or hospitality property.

The role supports the Engineering and Operations teams by ensuring guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, offices, and other facilities are maintained to a high standard, with minimal disruption to guests.

Key Responsibilities

Carpentry & Joinery

  • Carry out general carpentry, joinery, repair, and maintenance work throughout the property.
  • Repair and maintain doors, frames, skirting, architraves, cabinets, wardrobes, furniture, counters, partitions, painting and wooden fixtures.
  • Repair, adjust, and replace door locks, hinges, handles, closers, and associated hardware were within competence.
  • Construct and install wooden items, fixtures, shelves, panels, and partitions as required.
  • Carry out furniture repairs and restoration.
  • Perform minor repairs to flooring, wall panels, ceilings, and decorative woodwork.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install materials accurately.
  • Carry out basic painting, filling, sanding, sealing, and finishing associated with carpentry work.

Guest Room & Public Area Maintenance

  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests relating to carpentry and furniture.
  • Inspect guest rooms and public areas for defects and undertake corrective action.
  • Prioritize guest-impacting maintenance issues.
  • Ensure work areas are clean, safe, and presentable after completing repairs.
  • Minimize noise, dust, and disruption to guests during maintenance activities.

Multi-Skilled Maintenance Support

  • Assist other Engineering team members with basic maintenance tasks within training and competence.
  • Support minor repairs involving fixtures, fittings, hardware, and building fabric.
  • Assist with room renovations, refurbishment projects, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, and other departments to resolve maintenance issues.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and tasks.
  • Identify damaged or deteriorating furniture, fixtures, doors, and woodwork before they become guest complaints.
  • Report major defects, safety concerns, or required replacement works to the Engineering Manager.
  • Maintain appropriate records of completed maintenance work

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Completion of maintenance requests within agreed response times.
  • Quality and durability of completed carpentry work.
  • Preventive maintenance completion rate.
  • Reduction in repeat maintenance issues.
  • Guest complaint and satisfaction trends relating to maintenance.
  • Compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Effective use and control of materials and tools.
  • Cleanliness and presentation of completed work.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel or other hospitality environment.
  • Experience with hotel preventive maintenance systems and work-order systems.
  • Training/certification in Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Working at Height, or relevant trade safety.
  • Basic knowledge of other engineering disciplines such as plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, or general building maintenance.
  • Experience with hotel refurbishment and renovation projects

Overall Responsibility

The Multi-Skilled Carpenter contributes to the smooth operation of the property by maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, appearance, and functionality across all guest and operational areas. Will be asked to preform tasks that is not part of carpentry.

The position is expected to demonstrate a proactive “fix it right the first time” approach while delivering excellent internal and guest service.
