Job Description

HR Technical Writer – Job Description Specialist
The Job Description Specialist is responsible for creating a 2-part set of accurate and comprehensive job description products per assigned role. The first product is the formal job description used internally for HR decision-making, using the standard company-approved template. The second is the market-facing document that will be shared with candidates and posted to various career sites. The Job Description specialist will be paid a set fee for each set of documents. This is a contract-based on-demand job. This is not a full-time role.

Key activities are:

  • Scheduling the business discussion with the department manager to discuss, in detail, the role for which the job description documents will be prepared. The associated HR generalist may be in attendance as well.
  • Running the meeting, asking all necessary probing questions to fully articulate the role and the employee requirements for successful performance. A key element of this meeting is to extract those elements of the job that may be "assumed to be known” by the manager, when in fact they are not and need to be captured.
  • Preparing the draft job description using the established standards and formats, language standards, etc.
  • Submitting to the manager for approval and capturing the approval.
  • Finalizing the job description from the approved draft.
  • Preparing the market-facing job description. This entails expanding the technical job description verbiage to be compelling and accurate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Bachelors in management, communication, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Mandatory:
Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent technical English writing skills (grammar, spelling).
  • Excellent prose writing skills (ability to convey messages in an accurate, concise, articulate manner).
  • Confidence and composure to work directly with senior leaders.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Understanding of core and nuance aspects of common jobs in industry today, especially sales and account management, but also including finance, accounting, IT, product management, HR, operations and administrative support.
  • Good research skills.
