Job Description

This is a PART-TIME position based on Project needs.

Start Date: Immediately 

Must be available as needed during normal business hours for scheduled client meeting and task. Flexible Schedule ability to work remote,  after-hours/weekend work required, some local travel required. 

The Network/System Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of client’s voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing LAN, WAN, vLAN, DMZ etc. across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer will be responsible for the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training.

This individual will be responsible for engineering network solutions for small businesses, physical/virtual environments and branch offices. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; documenting requirements, remediation plan, migration strategy/timelines, research & development, technical analysis and design; and support, executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. Participation on projects is focused on minimizing the impact on end users and ensuring a smooth transition by performing operations activities within the project life-cycle.

Experience working for a Managed Services Provider strongly preferred. Flexible schedule but must be able to work during normal business hours (Monday-Friday 8-6pm) and after-hours.

Engineering and Provisioning

  • Engineering of technical solutions for various projects and operational needs following industry standards from Microsoft, ISO, NIST etc.
  • Engineer networking solutions including vLANs and DMZ on SonicWALL, DELL, HP, CISCO devices
  • Establish networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards
  • Maximize network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization
  • Secure network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed
  • Report network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information; managing projects.
  • Developing project documentation for presentation to the client
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
  • Develop and maintain system standards and best practices
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for project tasks
  • Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Assess client environments and provide recommendations for improvement to security and performance
  • Analyze and remediate technical vulnerabilities
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services for clients.
  • Design, implement, and maintain clients VOIP phone systems to include phone servers, phones, and faxes

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Security and/or Networking certifications
  • Must have experience implementing industry standards such as NIST 800-53, 171 and/or ISO 27001
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years’ experience in a high profile and fast-paced environment required supporting 10+ servers
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Candidate must be capable of working with minimal supervision and demonstrate superior team skills
  • This person must be able to perform in a fast paced, high volume environment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications are needed
  • Ability to prioritize and quickly resolve issues
  • Proven ability to effectively and efficiently research complex technical problems using the internet, written literature, vendor support and colleagues. 
  • Effective prioritization and project management skills
  • Attention to detail is critical when documenting work performed on incidents, service requests, and change records
  • Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice

REQUIRED SKILLS

Technical Skills:

5+ Years of experience, knowledge and troubleshooting of:

  • SonicWALL Firewall and Wireless Access Points
  • SonicWALL Analyzer 
  • Windows Server 2003-2016
  • VMWare ESXi and vCenter
  • Hyper-V
  • Virtual Networking
  • DHCP, DNS and Domain Controllers
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Office 365 Administration (Security and Compliance Center, Mobile Device Management etc.)
  • Network Switches (vLAN, DMZ etc.)
  • Experience with one or more ticketing systems and remote support tools a must
  • Experience with network monitoring tools (ConnectWise Automate preferred, Kaseya, SolarWinds, SCCM etc.)
  • Troubleshooting experience with the following hardware: Server (hard drive, memory, etc.), Storage Devices (NAS, SAN etc.), wireless access points, Managed Switches, Firewall (Sonicwall and Cisco).
  • Experience using group policy, commands prompts, PowerShell, DNS, and troubleshooting LAN and WAN connectivity problems
  • Experience providing analysis and recommendations for information technology requirements and purchases
  • Familiarity with ITILv3 or related service delivery frameworks a plus
