Job Description

We are seeking a talented Senior Water / Wastewater Project Manager for our Charlotte, NC office. We are looking for someone that can manage and lead multi-discipline planning and design teams for large water and wastewater treatment facility, collection system, and distribution system projects through all phases of planning, design, and delivery in the Charlotte area, other cities in NC, as well as provide support for our global network.

This is an opportunity to leverage your local knowledge and be involved in challenging projects that will offer an opportunity to provide technical solutions as a subject matter expert. Our services have spanned the areas of modeling, asset management, design, and construction administration of water, wastewater, storm water facilities, and infrastructure.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership, business development, project management, and technical engineering skills. Established client relationships and a proven track record with developing new business opportunities is a plus. We are seeking self-motivated and active networkers who value building credible relationships with clients and the community. Specific emphasis for this position includes municipal clients in Mecklenburg and Union counties, and to a lesser extent in surrounding counties.

The ideal candidate will have a background in the following:

  • Managing multi-discipline projects within the water/wastewater/conveyance engineering and construction sector from early concept development through detailed design and construction
  • Lead technical proposal preparation efforts and presentations along with delivering client interviews and fostering overall client expectations with respect to projects.
  • Serving as a lead technical resource for water/wastewater treatment, storm water systems, distribution/collection systems, and pump stations for both municipal and industrial clients while leveraging knowledge of treatment processes and technologies to identify best-fit solutions.
  • Managing and confirming fulfillment of scope of work requirements while meeting established budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment.
  • Supporting business and client development including building and managing relationships with key leaders which include major municipal clients in the Charlotte area
  • Serving as a leader of project teams and mentoring local staff by providing direction, knowledge, and guidance, including the coordination and reviewing of project assignments
  • Effectively working with key technical specialists, project team members, and delivery managers
  • Assisting with preparing design drawings and specifications
  • Preparing, monitoring, and managing project budgets and schedules while managing the firm's risk
  • Providing high level planning and programming analysis work including preparation of technical documents/reports
  • Being active in professional societies in which clients or potential clients are members
  • Contribute to the continued growth of GHD’s Design Services group by expanding municipal water and wastewater engineering services in Charlotte
  • Grow and oversee local Water Design Services group’s performance and utilization to achieve short and long-term goals

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Environmental or Civil)
  • 15 years of water/wastewater experience since Bachelor’s degree
  • 10 years of managing multi-disciplined water/wastewater projects
  • Registration as Professional Engineer
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills with excellent organizational skills.
  • The ability to prioritize multiple projects, track budgets, project schedules and anticipate associated upcoming tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in municipal water, wastewater, water resource, and/or conveyance projects in the Charlotte area
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Strong understanding of the North Carolina consulting engineering business and municipal agencies
  • Strong business development, proposal preparation, and marketing skills
  • PMP certification or ability to obtain within 12 - 15 months
